For over 30 years, Raytheon operates and maintains the Navy’s three Relocatable Over The Horizon Radars (ROTHR). Each radar consists of a remote transmit and receive site. All radars are operated from the Consolidated Operations Control Center in Chesapeake, Virginia. Each radar is capable of covering over four million square miles across the Caribbean, Eastern Pacific, Central, and South America with all systems manned and operated 24 hours a day. The ROTHR mission is primarily to track and report the movement of aircraft and ships carrying illicit narcotics from South America toward Central America and the United States.

This position is on a service contract with a set (non-negotiable) hourly rate of $22.43/hour. In addition, a Health & Welfare benefit is paid at $6.00/hour.


What You Will Do

  • Performs routine maintenance to the radar infrastructure. Position requires practical skill and knowledge in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, HVAC and electrical work.
  • Work involves a variety of duties such as replacing batteries, preparing equipment and structures for painting, cutting grass, trimming, spraying herbicides, testing fire alarm systems and emergency lighting, and brazing ground screen and radial wires.
  • The general maintenance worker also assists tradesmen with their electrical and HVAC work. Candidate will perform all other related duties as assigned and required.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires HS diploma(or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D in the US) or vocational/technical education in related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Applicant must have at least three years of practical experience assisting in the maintenance trades of electrical, HVAC, and buildings and ground maintenance.
  • Within twelve months of hire, the selected applicant must qualify as a Virginia Certified Pesticide Applicator (Registered Technician) and EPA certified to handle refrigerants under the CAA Section 608 (Type I and II).
  • Must have a clean motor vehicle driving record to obtain authorization to drive company vehicles.

The selected candidate may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued DoD Secret clearance. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance and to obtain any required Export Authorization.


Qualifications We Prefer

  • Current Registered State Pesticide Applicator.
  • Previous or current security clearance.
  • Applicant must have the ability to comprehend and carry out the instructions outlined in written procedures with little supervision.
