Description

Summary

The General Maintenance and Engineering Manager is personally or through subordinates responsible for the design, coordination, planning and implementation of programs relating to Maintenance and Engineering including design and installation of equipment and processes, preventive/proactive maintenance and repairs to buildings, grounds, utility systems and plant operation equipment and tools. He/she also carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, supervises and coordinates the activities of the General Maintenance and Engineering department
  • Reviews and discusses plant processes, equipment issues, and improvement/modification measures relating to facility maintenance with Plant Manager and other operations managers
  • Develops and maintains a robust maintenance program for continuous efficient operation of plant stationary equipment and the preservation of office and manufacturing buildings and company property
  • Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, electric power, gas or air required for operations
  • Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs and effect greater utilization of labor and materials
  • Directs training and indoctrination, performance evaluations, and corrective measures to improve employee work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures
  • Confers with management, engineering and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment
  • Identifies areas of improvement and drafts departmental objectives to improve safety and operational efficiency as well as setting targets for cost reduction
  • Generates performance reports for Quarterly Management Review Meetings and other operations performance/efficiency reporting
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications


  • A bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited college/university, 8 to 10 years related experience and/or training' or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, blueprints and electrical schematics, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to communicate well orally with a wide variety of co-workers (top management, production workers, sales, customer support, etc.) through the use of phone, email, and other forms of communication is essential.

  • Hearing and vision correctable to within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or inspecting documents. Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in this work environment requires hearing protection.
