Job Overview:

Job Title: General Machinist  

 

Job Summary 

Machine automotive related parts and/or assemblies. Participate as requested in discussions regarding the progress of projects and external and/or internal customers.  

 

Responsibility 

Machine automotive related parts and/or assemblies from various materials in prototype and/or small volume production quantities as directed by Machine Shop Supervisor.  

Be able to properly operate all Machine Shop equipment.  

Be able to properly use precision measuring tools, i.e. micrometers, air gauges, dial bore gauges, dial indicators, calipers, etc.  

Read blueprints/drawings.  

Work on assigned projects and complete assigned projects within specified timing targets.  

Ensure accurate completion and timely submission of personal Daily Time Record.  

Order shop supplies as needed by completing and submitting Purchase Requisitions to Machine Shop Supervisor.  

Perform general preventative maintenance and/or repairs on department equipment.  

Complete work instructions as required.  

Ensure the implementation and ongoing compliance of employee responsibilities as outlined in the McLaren Environmental, Health and Safety Handbook.  

Ensure department meets 5S targets as directed by Machine Shop Supervisor.  

Complete paperwork related to annual performance review within time frame specified.  

Perform additional duties as assigned by Trades Supervisor.  

 

Academic/Educational Requirements 

One-year technical school training and one year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.  


Required Skills/Experience 

Machining proficiency, mechanical and machining capabilities, ability to use precision measuring tools, capable of programming and operating CNC equipment, understanding and practical application of general shop math, basic geometry and basic trigonometry, ability to use Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Excel, non-degreed CAD capabilities, ability to read blueprints and sketches.  

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees within organization.  

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and/or schedule form.
