Job Description
The Flawless Launch Execution Lead Manufacturing Engineer leads a team of engineers responsible for the successful execution of manufacturing engineering projects from early process development through final production launch at the assembly plant. This role oversees project planning, equipment and tooling implementation, installation, and startup while ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to GM’s quality and safety standards.
The individual in this role works closely with cross-functional partners including operations, quality, supply chain, product engineering, and strategic suppliers to deliver flawless launches and drive the future of our manufacturing processes. This position requires strong independent judgment, leadership, and communication, and serves as the lead General Assembly Manufacturing Engineer onsite during installation and startup activities.
Lead, coach, and mentor a team of engineers through process development, build, implementation, installation, and startup at plant facilities
Develop and manage project plans, investment requirements, timelines, and budgets
Monitor project progress, identify and remove roadblocks, and mitigate execution risks
Ensure compliance with engineering standards, bill of process, bill of equipment, safety requirements, and applicable regulatory standards
Develop statements of requirements for tooling and equipment
Partner with cross-functional teams to support smooth project execution and successful production launches
Provide technical direction to and oversight of strategic suppliers
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, and supplier partners
Manage project budgets and forecasts while identifying and driving cost reduction opportunities
Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in manufacturing engineering
5+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role
Proven success delivering projects in a manufacturing environment, including equipment installation and construction
Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and continuous improvement practices
Experience with processing equipment, throughput, and manufacturing process execution
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
Understanding of safety regulations and safe work practices in a manufacturing environment
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
Previous supervisory or people leadership experience
Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment
Experience with equipment reliability, maintainability, standalone availability, and throughput improvement
Experience launching new products in a manufacturing setting
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, manufacturing equipment, the Global Launch Process, and the Global Vehicle Development Process
Familiarity with robotics and automation technologies
Experience with data analysis and statistical process control (SPC)
Master’s degree in Engineering
