Job Overview:

At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range.  The base hiring pay range for this role is between $20.25-$28.50 per hour, and your actual base pay within that range will depend upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skill set, level of experience, and geographic market location. FSQ EXPORT/SPECIALTY TECHNICIAN - AUSTIN PLANT

This position will report to the, Area Manager Pork Procurement. The work schedule for this position is Monday – Friday.  7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

 The person in this position:

  • Lead and manage export and specialty pork programs, ensuring compliance with USDA regulations and internal policies
  • Oversee segregation, documentation, and verification processes
  • Manage approved supplier programs (250–300 suppliers)
  • Ensure completion and accuracy of laboratory tests and Certificates of Analysis (COAs)
  • Maintain program documentation and compliance files
  • Coordinate with procurement, operations, and sales teams
  • Support export shipments with required compliance documentation
  • Participate in audits and ensure audit readiness
  • Provide training and guidance across departments
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proactive approach to information gathering and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in manufacturing or supply chain
  • Experience with USDA or export programs
  • Background in protein or food production

 

Position Summary

The Export-Specialty Technician supports the Austin Plant and Spice Annex by ensuring compliance with regulatory, customer, and company requirements related to specialty segregation programs, including Never Fed Beta Agonist (ractopamine-free), animal welfare programs (e.g., Proposition 12), and other emerging export requirements.  Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and effective collaboration with both plant and corporate teams.
