Position Overview:

The Prep & Rigging Technician is responsible for preparing vessel hulls, applying protective coatings, and assisting with the rigging and movement of boats within the marina. This role plays a key part in ensuring vessels are properly prepped, finished, and ready for launch while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare boat hulls by scraping, sanding, grinding, and cleaning surfaces prior to paint application
  • Apply multiple coatings including epoxy primers, anti-fouling paints, and other marine finishes
  • Identify paint types and ensure proper selection and application techniques
  • Assist with basic rigging tasks related to launching, hauling, and positioning vessels
  • Support vessel movement and staging within the yard, including coordination with equipment operators
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company safety policies
  • Occasionally assist with vessel cleaning, hauling, and launching operations
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support yard and marina operations

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior marine, marina, or boatyard experience
  • Experience working on or around boats
  • Familiarity with marine coatings, surface preparation, and application techniques
  • Forklift or equipment operation experience

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed primarily outdoors and in a shop/yard environment
  • Regular exposure to dust, fumes, paints, chemicals, and varying weather conditions
  • Physical demands include standing, bending, lifting, and performing repetitive manual tasks
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required

Travel Requirements:

Minimal travel required, work is primarily completed onsite

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $16 to $18 hourly. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate’s qualifications and the business context.
