How You Will Make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is seeking dependable, safety-focused individuals to join our foundry operations team as a Foundry Production Worker. This is a hands-on role within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment where employees support the production of cast iron boiler components through molding, casting, finishing, and material handling operations.

Successful candidates often come from backgrounds in foundries, steel mills, metal fabrication, machine operation, welding, industrial manufacturing, construction, mining, rail, shipyard operations, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance.

This position requires the ability to work in a physically demanding environment involving industrial equipment, airborne dust, elevated temperatures, moving machinery, repetitive lifting, and manufacturing processes. Individuals who enjoy hands-on work, operating equipment, and being part of a production team are encouraged to apply.

What You Can Expect in This Role (Job Responsibilities)

Core and Mold Production

  • Assemble, inspect, and finish completed cores for boiler parts according to standard procedures.
  • Locate and install proper core boxes and rollover plates, ensuring correct alignment and setup.
  • Perform pattern changes, inspect core quality, and repair cores as needed.
  • Set chaplets and cores, close molds, clamp flasks, and pour molds with precision.
  • Maintain clean core areas and assist with positioning cores on the production floor.

Casting and Finishing Operations

  • Open molds, extract and degate castings, and transport them to cleaning or knockout areas.
  • Sort and dispose of defective castings and gating systems following quality standards.
  • Operate blast equipment to load and unload castings and remove excess iron or debris.
  • Shake out flasks, stack on floors, and perform hook changes as needed.
  • Support cleanup and finishing processes to prepare castings for final handling.

Machine Operations and Production Support

  • Operate overhead cranes, molding machinery, industrial equipment, and production systems.
  • Inspect and adjust sand systems, flasks, squeeze boards, and mold conditions.
  • Set up work areas, machines, and production floors in alignment with job requirements.
  • Conduct equipment inspections and report any irregularities.
  • Assist with the safe movement and storage of materials and tooling throughout the shift.
  • Support continuous operation through equipment setup, changeovers, troubleshooting, and general production duties.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and production standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to work safely in a demanding industrial manufacturing environment
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to quality and safety
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical labor throughout the shift

Preferred Qualifications

  • Foundry experience
  • Heavy manufacturing experience
  • Steel mill or metal processing experience
  • Welding or fabrication experience
  • Industrial machine operation experience
  • Construction, skilled trades, or mechanical assembly experience
  • Industrial maintenance experience
  • Experience operating overhead cranes or heavy equipment
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience working with hand and power tools

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This is a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.

Employees should be comfortable:

  • Working in hot, dusty, and noisy conditions
  • Standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift
  • Frequently lifting, pushing, and pulling materials weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Working around molten metal, castings, industrial machinery, and moving equipment
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, hard hats, and steel-toed footwear
  • Working overtime and weekends as production needs require
