Job Description Summary
The nature of this position is to effectively and safely move materials by forklift to the areas of the plant where these materials are needed. The position is service oriented.
Job Description
Achieve maximum production and assure an adequate supply of product to the packaging lines..
Keep an adequate supply of packaging materials and supplies on the packaging lines.
Keep an adequate supply of totes in the tote staging area.
Keep the forklifts and work area in a clean a safe condition.
Pick up totes from the filling areas on a timely basis to avoid overflow, waste, and the inefficient utilization of totes.
Assist the waste drive in removing waste totes and filling gas bottles when required.
Perform accurate tote inventories as required by supervisors.
Assure compliance with sanitation standards by: (a) Sweeping pre-arranged areas for 15 minutes prior to start of shift. (b) Insuring that empty totes placed in the staging area are clean and in good repair. (c) Insuring that totes removed from the filling area are properly ticketed, lined and covered.
Make sure tote snippets, tickets, and log sheets are filled out correctly and turned in to the supervisor at the end of the shift.
Prior to start of shift, inspect forklift to assure that: (a) Brakes, warning devices, fire extinguishers, and other safety devices are functioning properly. (b) Engine oil, engine coolant, hydraulic oil and fuel tanks are at the prescribed levels and that there are no significant leakage’s in the systems. (c) Malfunctions and damages are reported immediately.
Report any damage to equipment, material, product or structures that is incurred while operating a forklift.
Be physically and mentally able to work anywhere assigned or as per lead/supervisors request.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
Forklift operators are required to have a current forklift operators license issued by authorized company individuals.
Must be able to work under pressure, have a good safety attitude and be mature enough to handle a forklift in an efficient and careful manner.
Must be able to fill out tote tickets and enter information in the forms required.
Must also be familiar with the various products, cuts, grades, and labels.
Must know how to fill the propane tanks.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
