Job Overview:

Description

  

Position Purpose:

Position is responsible for forging aluminum slugs into parts using a forge press.

Essential Functions:

  • Work from      production order, job ticket and/or direction of supervisor;
  • Follow work instructions to produce      parts; 
  • Verify the material to be forged is correct and the dimensions are according to specifications; 
  • Set-up Maxi and Screw presses;
  • Set-up and remove different dies; 
  • Perform checks on die and bolster plate bolts; 
  • Understand press settings and troubleshoot settings when necessary; 
  • Understand proper slug location, tolerances, temperature settings, tonnage, alloys and lube mixtures; 
  • Identify defects/non-conforming marks in the forged parts and make appropriate corrections; 
  • Complete appropriate paperwork such as visual inspection records, daily checklists, routing sign offs, etc; 
  • Identify issues with the equipment and notify supervisor and/or maintenance; 
  • Monitor DAS stations to ensure proper operation of press, part rate, and temperature; 
  • Monitor furnace temperature and speed to ensure proper heating of slugs and/or parts; 
  • Inspect dies after use and tag dies requiring further inspection or rework; 
  • Notify Quality of quality issues; 
  • Maintain daily timekeeping, production, and interventions on computer systems; 
  • Report unusual or unsafe conditions to supervisor; 
  • Actively participate in efforts to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment. Follow policies, programs, and      procedures for the reduction and elimination of work related accidents and provide feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions.

Requirements

  

Education and Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Previous experience in forging or heavy machine      operation preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and      follow instructions;
  • Ability      to work under pressure and adhere to schedules;
  • Ability      to read a tape measure; 
  • Ability      to operate hand tools such as spray gun and forge tongs; 
  • Ability      to work safely and keep area clean;
  • Ability      to work assigned shift and remain awake and alert during assigned shift is      required;
  • Reporting      to work for assigned shift, maintaining a physical presence and performing      assigned work for the duration of assigned shift is required; 
  • Demonstrated      ability to work well with all levels of the organization; 
  • Good verbal,      interpersonal, and written communication skills;
  • Able to      communicate clearly, concisely and achieve intended objectives;
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments which      may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes or airborne      particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise, and all weather conditions.      Reporting to work for assigned shift, maintaining a physical presence and      performing assigned work for the duration of assigned shift is required; 

Environmental Conditions:

· High Temperatures: Frequently exposed to extreme heat from the forging process, necessitating proper heat-resistant gear.

· Noise Levels: Typically works in a loud environment due to machinery and equipment, requiring the use of hearing protection.

· Dust and Fumes: May encounter metal dust, particulates, and fumes from the forging process, making adequate ventilation essential.

· Physical Space: Works in a potentially cramped or busy area, requiring good spatial awareness to navigate safely around machinery and other workers.

· Safety Hazards: Regularly exposed to hazards from heavy machinery, hot materials, and moving parts, necessitating strict adherence to safety protocols.

· Protective Equipment: Requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, helmets, and flame-resistant clothing.

· Lighting Conditions: Adequate lighting is crucial for visibility and safety, especially when handling hot or heavy materials.

· Surface Conditions: Floors may be uneven or slippery due to oils and water, requiring caution and proper footwear.

· Physical Stamina: The job often involves physical labor, such as lifting and moving heavy objects, requiring good physical fitness.

· Team Environment: Works closely with other team members, necessitating effective communication and teamwork in a potentially chaotic setting.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand for an 8 hour shift. Position requires frequent twisting, turning, reaching, bending, pulling and pushing. Position occasionally requires walking, climbing, stooping, and crouching. The employee must be able to handle up to 80 lbs on a regular basis throughout the 8 hour shift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Working conditions include exposure to extreme temperatures (heat) and humid conditions, dirt, and noise
