Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance. Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts.
An incumbent must possess a thorough technical knowledge of the trade in the area of responsibility, and a have a solid educational base, generally gained through successful completion of the Apprentice program or the equivalent in education and training. A candidate without an Apprentice Certificate or equivalent should have a minimum of 3 years trade experience, preferably with some exposure to production planning and support functions. The candidate must be able to supervise the work of others, motivate and train employees, and possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Depending on assigned area, specific technical, medical and physical requirements may apply.

HS Diploma/GED and 3 years of Outside Machinery experience. AA Degree/2-Year Technical Degree or Ingalls Outside Machinery Apprenticeship.

• Candidate cannot have more than 3 unexcused absences in the last 180 day period.
• Candidate cannot have any safety DANS that result in a disciplinary layoff in last 180 day period.
• Candidate cannot have more than 2 total DANS in the last 180 day period (excluding lost tool).
Strong working knowledge of the ship construction process with an emphasis on machinery is preferred.
