Job Overview:

 
Come join New England's favorite bakery! We have an immediate opening for a 2nd shift Food Safety & Quality Technician. Regular schedule will be scheduled for 2pm - 10:00pm.  Previous experience is necessary.  The preferred candidate will be bi-lingual in Spanish as communicating to our entire population is an essential part of the requirements. 
 

Summary:  The Quality Control Technician works closely with the Production, Packaging & Engineering Departments to ensure quality of all incoming materials and components, work in progress, and finished product. The Technician must be able to work independently in a fast paced production environment. They are responsible for checking physical attributes, verifying dimensions, performing various quality tests, using independent judgment, and clearly documenting specific findings.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Verify quality of incoming materials including raw and packaging material.
  • Work as a team with the Production, Packaging & Engineering Departments to resolve quality issues
  • Perform the pre-flight quality inspection at the beginning of the shift with Production, Engineering and Sanitation Departments.
  • Follow Quality Control Procedure to ensure all quality measures are performed and all non conformances are inspected, corrected, and findings are documented. 
  • Clearly document and communicate quality control findings to appropriate parties
  • Check and record finished products for daily performance evaluation against specifications
  • Ability to read and interpret standards and specifications
  • Non-conforming material and CCP investigations
  • Provide suggestions / strategies to help maintain consistent and quality products
  • Responsible for handling minor quality issues and making minor decisions regarding food safety
  • Monitor ingredient storage in warehouse for proper rotation and usage of materials
  • Perform weekly audits (as scheduled) to ensure systems and policy compliance including GMP’s, line audits and formula compliance
  • Review, maintain and suggest possible upgrades for any established quality programs or policies
  • Review and maintain quality programs for raw materials, food safety procedures and established finished product quality levels of acceptance
  • Help maintain departmental budget 
  • Monitor all aspects of the Allergen Program awareness, including segregation of any materials to prevent cross contamination
  • Support continuous improvement activities as needed
  • Monitor and maintain all GMPs for Calise and Sons Bakery
  • Responsible for participating in all activities set out by the company in support of the Food Safety Modernization Act.
  • Assist with all private and governmental audits at Calise and Sons Bakery
  • Everyone has responsibility to support and follow our Food Safety and Food Defense programs.
  • Strong work ethic and attendance is a must
  • Any other associated tasks as assigned by supervisory personnel.

 

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Strong understanding of food safety and product quality systems
  • Self Motivated & ability to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Good independent decision making capabilities
  • Bi-Lingual preferred and the ability to read & write in English
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral, documentation ability is also essential as well as good listening & comprehension skills.
  • Effective problem solving capabilities and administrative ability to communicate and follow-up with all levels of management required
  • Effective use of computer programs such as Excel, Word and Outlook on a daily basis.
  • Commitment to food safety and product quality
  • Work flexible hours based on project and business demands.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time, up to 4 hours without a break.
  • Stand for up to 12 hours.
  • Work in very hot temperatures (>90 degrees F) seasonally
