Build Your Career With ACECO

Every weld is only as good as the fit-up underneath it. We're looking for a Fitter who understands that layout and alignment accuracy come first — someone who takes pride in getting the joint right before it ever sees a welder. If you'd rather own the layout and setup than just show up to weld what someone else prepped, this role will feel like a natural fit.

What This Role Really Is

This is a hands-on structural fitting role. You'll spend most of your time laying out, aligning, clamping, and tacking large steel components to blueprint tolerance — before the piece ever goes to final weld. Fit-up accuracy is the job. Squareness, dimension, and alignment will not be secondary details — they're what you're accountable for every day.

Who Thrives Here (and Who Doesn’t)

You’ll do well here if you:

  • Take ownership of accuracy from layout through final fit-up
  • Understand that a good weld starts with a good fit
  • Take pride in accuracy, alignment, and structural integrity
  • Can read a print and translate it into exact measurements without guessing
  • Catch fit-up problems before they become someone else's problem

This role is likely not a fit if you:

  • Prefer to weld what's already been fit and clamped by someone else
  • Rush layout to get to the "real" work faster
  • Are uncomfortable being the one accountable when a piece doesn't align
  • Prefer light, low-tolerance fabrication work

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

First 30 Days

  • Learn ACECO fabrication standards, tolerances, and safety requirements
  • Get familiar with the layout tools, measuring equipment, and blueprint conventions used on the floor
  • Begin performing fit-up work under guidance from experienced fitters

Days 31–60

  • Independently lay out and fit structural steel components to blueprint tolerance
  • Consistently verify dimensions, squareness, and alignment without rework
  • Build a working rhythm with welders and shop leads on handoff quality

Days 61–90

  • Handle complex, large-scale weldment fit-up with minimal oversight
  • Be trusted to catch and correct fit-up issues before they reach final weld
  • Demonstrate consistent accuracy and reliability across varied assemblies

Why Join Our Team at American Crane?

Craftsmanship — Precision layout and fit-up work, not repetitive assembly

Impact — Build large-scale industrial equipment used in critical applications

Growth — Develop advanced fitting, layout, and blueprint skills over time

Stability & Culture — Join a team built on accountability, teamwork, and GRIT

What You’ll Do

Layout & Fit-Up

  • Lay out, fit, and assemble structural steel components prior to welding
  • Align, clamp, and tack components to meet blueprint and tolerance requirements
  • Verify dimensions, squareness, and fit-up using precision measuring tools
  • Perform rework (grinding, torching, adjusting) to correct fit-up before final weld

Blueprint & Technical Work

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics
  • Translate technical specifications into accurate layout and assembly work
  • Fabricate and assemble structural and machine components to tolerance

Tacking & Fabrication Support

  • Tack weld to hold components in place for final welding
  • Set up material and components for efficient welder handoff
  • Identify and flag fit-up or material issues before they reach final weld

Material Handling & Shop Support

  • Operate cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace
  • Participate in cross-training and continuous development
