Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Firmware Engineer to join the ServerTech Team in Reno, NV.

 

Under general direction of the Firmware Engineering Manager, the Firmware Engineer designs, develops, implements, and maintains firmware for network interface cards and subcomponents in intelligent power distribution systems. Focus is both on networking protocols and user interface in an embedded Linux environment and interface and metrics computations in subcomponent microcontrollers, with contributions expanding to all aspects of the application and products.

The Firmware Engineer delivers embedded software from conception to release for new embedded Linux NIC functionality and subcomponent microcontrollers in our intelligent power distribution products. The Firmware Engineer ensures that all assigned duties are performed quickly, efficiently and according to the established departmental and company policies, procedures and goals.

The Firmware Engineer, as with all members of the Server Technology Team, is expected to promote a positive attitude, demonstrate initiative, professionalism, personal awareness, integrity, and exercise confidentiality.

 

What Will You Do?

  • Design, develop, and debug firmware/software in an embedded environment
  • Document designs, source code, test requirements, and processes
  • Collaborate with the firmware team on designs
  • Provide support to test and manufacturing engineers
  • Learn and incorporate new programming paradigms, networking protocols, and security requirements
  • Assist in maintaining the development infrastructure
  • Participate in code reviews and specification conformance testing as defined by the selected software development methodology
  • Comply with defined software development processes and standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University with emphasis in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience:

Preferred 2 years related experience, preferably in similar industry.

 

 

Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Experience designing, developing, and debugging firmware/software in an embedded Linux environment
  • Strong C/C++ programming, debugging skills
  • Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint/ Project)
  • Self-management skills including planning, organizing, and coordinating tasks
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups in the Company including Engineering, Technical Support, Product Management, and Sales
  • Strong attention to detail and organization/planning skills and the ability to work independently

 

Desired Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Web server and GUI development in an embedded Linux environment
  • Experience implementing networking protocols and services (e.g SNMP agent, HTTP/S)
  • Experience implementing network security protocols (e.g. SSH, SSL/TLS)
  • Ability to connect embedded systems to web based technologies (e.g. HTML, CGI, Perl, JavaScript, REST, SOAP)
  • Understanding of communication systems (e.g. I2C, SPI, USB, UART)
  • Experience with 8051, ARM, PIC microcontrollers and development environments
  • Source code control and bug tracking systems (e.g. SVN, GIT, TRAC)
  • Experience with compilers and JTAG debuggers
  • Unit testing
  • Familiarity of ISO 9000 standards and audit process

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Work environment is fast-paced and priorities can shift quickly. All employees are expected to go outside their primary responsibilities when required, and multi-task job duties on a regular basis. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
