Position Summary

We are seeking dependable and safety-conscious Firewatch personnel to support shipyard operations in Kittery, Maine.

The Firewatch will monitor welding, burning, cutting, grinding, and other hot work activities to identify and prevent potential fire hazards. This position is ideal for candidates with previous shipyard, naval shipyard, construction, or industrial experience who understand the importance of maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor welding, burning, cutting, grinding, and other hot work activities.
• Maintain continuous observation of hot work areas for potential fire hazards.
• Identify sparks, heat, smoke, combustible materials, and other unsafe conditions.
• Ensure appropriate fire extinguishing equipment is readily available.
• Monitor surrounding and adjacent areas where sparks or heat may travel.
• Communicate unsafe conditions immediately to supervisors and safety personnel.
• Stop work when an immediate fire hazard is identified.
• Follow all site-specific hot work and fire prevention procedures.
• Maintain required Firewatch logs, permits, and documentation.
• Follow all OSHA, customer, and shipyard safety requirements.
• Work safely in shipboard compartments, confined areas, elevated locations, and other industrial environments.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
• Perform other safety-support duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous Firewatch experience preferred.
• Shipyard, naval shipyard, construction, or industrial experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods.
• Strong understanding of basic fire and workplace safety.
• Ability to identify potential fire hazards and respond appropriately.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Dependable attendance and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work in an active shipyard environment.
• Must be able to wear required PPE.
• Must be able to pass required background screening, drug screening, and site-access requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and shipboard accessways.
• Ability to work in confined and restricted spaces.
• Ability to work around welding fumes, heat, dust, noise, and other shipyard conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry required safety equipment.
• Ability to maintain situational awareness in an active industrial environment.

Preferred Training & Certifications

• Firewatch certification or documented Firewatch training.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
• Hot Work / Fire Prevention training.
• Confined Space training.
• Previous naval shipyard or ship repair experience.

$26.00 per hour

Overtime opportunities may be available depending on project requirements.
