$20.00-$23.62/HR Plus $1.50 shift premium
About the Role
American Roller Company is seeking a skilled
Finishing/Grinder Operator
to join our team in Covington, VA. This hands-on role is critical in ensuring the precision grinding and finishing of coated rollers to meet customer specifications. If you have machining experience and a strong attention to detail, this is a great opportunity to work with a leading manufacturer in the industry.
Key Responsibilities
Precision Grinding & Finishing
- Work from job specification sheets and blueprints to grind and polish coated rollers to exact dimensions and finishes.
- Set up and operate grinding and polishing equipment, adjusting feeds, speeds, and stops to achieve required tolerances.
- Select, install, and maintain grinding wheels, belts, and polishing media.
- Perform wheel dressing, balancing, and maintenance as needed.
Measurement & Quality Control
- Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to ensure compliance.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as
PI tapes, micrometers, profilometers, indicators, and gauges
to verify dimensions and finishes.
- Utilize profiling equipment and processing data to confirm part accuracy.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate multiple machines as scheduled to meet production demands.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of equipment.
- Identify and report defective materials, unusual conditions, or faulty operations to the supervisor.
Material Handling & Safety
- Handle and transport parts using hoists, cranes, and carts.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques and equipment usage.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
What We’re Looking For
- 1+ years
of cylindrical grinding or related machining experience.
- Strong
shop math skills
and mechanical aptitude.
- Basic understanding of metallurgy.
- Experience using
precision measuring instruments
with high accuracy.
- Ability to
push/pull carts
using mechanical assistance for loads up to 300 lbs.
- Capability to manually lift parts up to
40 lbs.
(heavier loads assisted by hoists).
