What You Do

  • Move frames in and out of the production line and to adjoining departments.
  • Fill and smooth cracks or depressions, remove marks and imperfections, and repair broken parts using plastic or wood putty, glue, nails, and/or screws.
  • Remove accessories prior to finishing, and mask areas that should not be exposed to finishing processes or substances.
  • Smooth, shape, and touch-up surfaces to prepare them for finishing, using sandpaper, pumice stones, steel wool, chisels, sanders, or grinders.
  • Remove old finishes and damaged or deteriorated parts using hand tools, stripping tools, sandpaper, steel wool, abrasives, solvents, and/or dip baths, and wash surfaces to prepare them for finish application.
  • Select appropriate finishing ingredients such as paint, stain, lacquer, shellac, or varnish, depending on factors such as wood hardness and surface type.
  • Distress surfaces with woodworking tools or abrasives before staining to create an antique appearance, or rub surfaces to bring out highlights and shadings.
  • Disassemble items to prepare them for finishing, using hand tools.
  • Make finish wood samples and handles for sales and marketing.
  • Apply finishes to furniture frames.

  • Quality accuracy – percentage of products meeting quality standards with minimal defects or rework
  • First-pass yield – items completed correctly the first time without needing corrections
  • Production output – ability to meet daily or weekly finishing volume targets
  • Defect identification – timely and accurate identification and reporting of quality issues
  • Rework reduction – decrease in recurring finishing or quality issues over time
  • On-time completion – finishing tasks completed within expected production timelines
  • Attention to detail – consistency in appearance, cleanliness, and final product presentation
  • Team support and flexibility – willingness to assist across production areas to keep workflow moving
  • Safety compliance – adherence to all safety standards and procedures with no incidents

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some furniture and/or upholstery manufacturing experience preferred.
  • One year of finishing experience preferred.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to follow direction and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to use a hand truck or dolly.
  • Good attendance and demonstrated work ethic required.
