JOB OVERVIEW:

The Life Sciences Group of ATS is a ~$1.3B global business comprised of 6 distinct segments with key operations in Canada, USA, UK, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, China, Japan, the Czech Republic. Growth momentum for the Life Sciences Group is strong, as illustrated by two acquisitions completed within the past year.

The Finance Manager will act as a strategic business partner, supporting the VP Finance, Life Sciences Group in driving performance management and financial reporting. The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination and consolidation of the annual operating plan, for assembling the monthly business review, and for managing the forecasting process. The role also involves providing analytical support to strategic initiatives and key decision making. As a proactive member of the Life Sciences Group, the Finance Manager will identify continuous improvement opportunities, simplify tools and systems to drive efficient financial processes, and promote a strong internal control environment.

In addition, the Finance Manager will support acquisition activities and integration of newly acquired companies, contribute to the capital allocation process and assist with certain accounting matters related to the Group’s segments. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

FINANCIAL REPORTING AND ANALYSIS

  • Preparing Life Sciences Group monthly and quarterly consolidated financial and operational performance reports.
  • Providing commentary on monthly and quarterly segment performance to identify areas of focus and assisting with financial reporting requirements as required.
  • Consolidating and reviewing the monthly Group forecast while providing analysis of variances.
  • Developing and/or preparing ad hoc financial analysis as assigned.

ANNUAL OPERATING PLAN PROCESS

  • Supporting the Vice-President Finance Life Sciences Group in developing a robust annual operating plan that takes the business one step closer to its long-term vision.
  • Planning and coordinating the consolidated annual operating plans globally working closely with all segments of the Group and with the central Financial Planning and Analysis team of ATS.
  • Consolidating all financial and non-financial materials underpinning the Annual Operating Plan and preparing the presentation materials supporting the submission to the ATS executive team.
  • Assisting segment finance leads during the plan process.

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

  • Driving improvement of the segment monthly financial and operational reporting package.
  • Driving the simplification and streamlining of the monthly reporting and forecast processes.
  • Creating and maintaining various dashboards and reports to support both Group and segment performance.
  • Drive or support special projects that strengthen the financial performance of the Group as required

AD HOC MATTERS

  • Supporting transactional teams in the due diligence of potential acquisition targets.
  • Supporting the integration process of newly acquired companies.
  • Providing support in the management of the Life Sciences approval process (application of the ATS delegation of authority policy) and bringing ad hoc input into investment decisions brought to the attention of the Life Sciences executive team.
  • Ensuring that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Adhering to all health and safety rules and procedures.

INTERNAL CONTROL, POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • Assist the Life Sciences VP Finance in ensuring that ATS’ financial policies and procedures are adhered to through the operations.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of Group policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or other similar discipline.
  • CFA/MBA and/or CPA represent an additional strength in the execution of the role responsibilities.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of financial analysis and/or accounting experience.
  • Strong analytical and financial reporting skills.
  • Experience in business evaluation and project reviews (e.g. discounted cash flows).
  • Must be hands-on, detailed and result-oriented, and able to consistently meet deadlines in a rapidly moving environment.
  • Sense of curiosity, able to identify variances that require further explanation and knows what types of questions to ask.
  • Problem solving and analysis: understand the root cause and define the scope of the problem, identifying strengths and weaknesses of alternatives, and select/recommend appropriate solution.
  • Effective communication with people at all levels of the organization both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated capacity to turn data into insights, and to present results in a meaningful way.
  • Advanced skills with Excel and PowerPoint, and overall strong skills with other MS Office products are required.
