Our company provides a wide range of products and services and our technical services team is made up of a variety of positions and specialties.  We are currently seeking applicants for Service Technician/Field Engineer.  Service Technicians/Field Engineers provide repair and implementation service and support at the client’s location with company supplied vehicles. 
 
This position requires basic electronics and computer/IT training and/or experience.  Salary, daily responsibilities and the opportunity for advancement are based on the skills and experience that a candidate possesses.  All interested individuals are encouraged to apply.

Compensation
Pay Rate: $29.00 to $43.00/hour ($60,320.00 - $89,440 annually) 
Pay rate based on applicant’s skills, experience, training/education, certifications and licenses.

Location 
US, Windsor, CT – This position is home based, in a location to support the Hartford County, CT and Western MA areas. 
Employees will be required to travel to our Naugatuck headquarters location during the work day to facilitate onboarding and training and as required going forward, but will be based

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnosis, repair and preventive maintenance of electronic equipment, including RF, control and IT equipment at customer sites
  • Prepare, program, configure and stage equipment prior to installation
  • Demonstrate operational aspects and features of equipment and systems and provide end user operational training 
  • Deliver equipment and materials to offsite locations
  • Assist implementation crews with physical installation of equipment
  • Complete field configuration and optimization of new systems and facilitate cutover 
  • Repair electronic equipment which is installed in vehicles, at service center and at customer locations
  • Assist with the design of new systems
  • Complete documentation of activities, systems and materials
  • Assist support staff with the processing and updating repair orders
  • Keep vehicle and work area clean and maintained
  • Other duties as they may be required
   
 General Qualifications
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems or escalate problems in a timely manner while following consistent, standards and approaches
  • Document all work, including updating cases related to service requests and other tasks in a case management system
  • Be a self-starter and work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Be on time for work and have consistent attendance
  • Candidates must have a diverse skill set that will allow them to think on their feet in a variety of situations
  • Have the ability to relate well to customers and co-workers and to explain technical information in basic, understandable terms
  • Maintain a valid Connecticut driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass company’s and customer’s background checks
  • Ability to pass physical, drug test and proficiency tests
    • Routine Motor Vehicle Reports (MVR), back ground checks, drug tests, physicals and proficiency tests may be required on an ongoing basis 
  • Ability to be flexible in a dynamic and changing work day
  • Ability to travel out of state for training on occasion
  • Maintain our company goals including honesty, integrity and ethical behavior at all times
  • Experience with or as a public safety end user or first responder is beneficial
       
Technical Qualifications
  • Knowledge of basic electronics theory.  Applicant must be familiar with basic electronics concepts such as:
    • AC/DC voltage and current relationships
    • Understanding of wire size
    • Switches and relays
    • Resistance including color code
    • Capacitance
    • Inductance
    • Voice/RF modulation/demodulation
    • Semiconductors including diodes, transistor and ICs
    • Truth/logic tables
    • Formulas such as Ohm’s law, power law, capacitive reactance, inductive reactance
    • Use of oscilloscope and DVM
  • Windows PC/server and networking experience or training.  Applicants should be familiar with the following concepts and/or have experience with the following tasks:
    • How to set an IP address on a computer and basic network configuration
    • Netmask and its purpose
    • Gateway and its purpose
    • Basic understanding of the function of DHCP
    • Windows file structure and how to navigate it
    • Major server/network/PC component troubleshooting and replacement
    • Installation and configuration of Windows operating systems
    • The concept of a domain and active directory for a Windows network
    • Network+ and/or A+ certifications are desired, but not required
  • Trade school or certification program diploma or AS degree in electronics, electronic engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Basic math skills to support working equations used for electronics theory
  • Three-years field service or internal support experience is preferred
  • Strong problem solving ability
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics
  • Familiarity with various electronic test equipment
  • Proficiency with soldering and making connectors
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and standard office equipment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook (Email), Word, Excel and web browser and other standard Windows programs
  • Ability to provide 24 x 7 on-call support on a rotating basis
  • Ability to provide overtime support on an as needed basis
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds of equipment or test equipment on flat surfaces and up stairs 
  • Ability to assist others with deployment of equipment by carrying loads in excess of 75 pounds with others from time to time
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground, up hills and in other outdoor areas, while carrying tools and equipment, during various weather conditions, in order to access remote equipment sites
  • Ability to work with materials and equipment above head height and to articulate into tight spaces to facilitate installation, service and repair of equipment
  • Obtain CT DCP R2 license and Motorola/ETA technician certifications within 18 months of employment

In addition to the technical requirements, we are looking for individuals who are team-oriented and who work and communicate effectively with others at all levels throughout the organization.  Excellent customer service skills with the willingness to provide world-class support are a must.
