Job Overview:

Caltrol is Hiring an Instrumentation Technician in Bakersfield, CA. Must live within 45 minutes of our Bakersfield, CA, office. Company truck provided.

You will perform field and shop repair services for pressure, temperature, differential transmitters, and general process control instrumentation, including new installation and start-up services. During field assignments, you will be working away from home for up to weeks at a time at customer facilities. Candidates must have 5+ years previous experience in instrumentation at power plants and a working knowledge of process controls.

You must have a valid driver's license in good standing and an excellent driving record. This is a safety-sensitive position. You are required to pass a pre-screen drug test that includes testing for marijuana, and will be subjected to random testing.

What you'll be doing:

  • New installation, retrofit and repair pressure, temperature, differential transmitters, and general process instrumentation pressure, and process control instrumentation at customer’s facilities or in the Caltrol shop.
  • Calibration of field instruments such as level, pressure, and temperature transmitters.
  • Troubleshoot process control equipment, including motor operated valves, field measurement instruments, and final control devices.
  • Perform MOV diagnostics.
  • Take field measurements which are needed for design of retrofit of MOV mounting hardware.
  • Design mounting brackets and couplings to connect valves and MOV's.
  • Interact with customers to promote service contracts.
  • Conduct customer trainings.
  • Assist customers with problem resolution.
  • Assist with shop assembly needs as time permits.

What we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years of experience as a field service technician, instrumentation technician, and/or demonstration of general electrical/mechanical competency.
  • Strong knowledge in the calibration of field instruments such as level, pressure, and temperature transmitters is required!
  • A working knowledge of process controls and instrumentation.
  • Strong electrical knowledge including ability to read and understand wiring diagrams – single phase, three phase, AC and DC and ability to troubleshoot electrical problems.
  • Strong knowledge of valve actuators including Electric actuators, Pneumatic actuators, and Hydraulic actuators.
  • Driver's license in good standing.
  • Must maintain excellent driving (DMV) record.

Hiring Range:

The hiring range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00 p/hour. This is the pay scale range Caltrol reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary based on geographic region, skills, qualifications, and experience of the candidate along with the requirements of the position.

**Expected Hours:**

A typical work week will be M-F, 8 to 10 hours plus travel time. Overtime, including extended shifts and weekends, will typically equal 5-10 hours per week. Start and finish times may be irregular.

Work Environment:

Will regularly visit customer sites where environments will vary. Sites will be loud, may be warm in summer or cold in winter, and will include both indoor and outdoor sites.

**Physical Demands:**

Will require work in confined spaces and on elevated platforms. Must be able to lift, push, pull, carry up to 50 lbs. Will work in extreme heat and extrema cold temperatures.

**Travel: **

Will regularly visit customer sites within our territory (AZ, CA, HI, NV) 75% of time. Will be required to be away from home for weeks at a time.
