Job Overview:

Hoogendoorn USA is looking for a hands-on, early-career Field Service Technician with strong technical potential, curiosity, and a positive field attitude.

This is a development position for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, working with electrical and automation systems, traveling to customer sites, and learning new technologies.

Greenhouse experience is not required. Hoogendoorn expects to invest approximately 12 months in product, field, and technical training before the employee becomes fully independent in our specialized greenhouse automation environment.

We are looking for technical potential rather than a fully developed controls engineer. Electrical fundamentals, troubleshooting ability, learning capacity, customer orientation, and willingness to travel are more important to us than previous greenhouse experience.

What You Will Do

  • Install, connect, test, and commission Hoogendoorn automation and control systems at customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, controls, sensor, I/O, and basic network communication issues.
  • Install, calibrate, and verify sensors and instrumentation.
  • Perform low-voltage wiring checks, I/O verification, and functional testing.
  • Support system startup, commissioning, upgrades, and field-service activities.
  • Provide professional customer-facing technical support.
  • Document technical issues, work performed, and resolutions.
  • Work with customers, electricians, greenhouse builders, integration partners, and Hoogendoorn technical teams.
  • Travel throughout the United States approximately 50-60% of the time.

What We Are Looking For

  • Technical certificate, associate degree, or equivalent practical experience in automation, mechatronics, electrical technology, instrumentation, industrial maintenance, HVAC/building controls, or a related field.
  • Approximately 1-3 years of relevant hands-on experience preferred.
  • Strong electrical fundamentals and troubleshooting ability.
  • Comfortable using a multimeter and working with low-voltage control circuits.
  • Ability to read basic electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with sensors and digital/analog I/O.
  • Basic Ethernet, IP addressing, and network troubleshooting knowledge.
  • Strong problem-solving and learning ability.
  • Professional communication skills and a customer-service mindset.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to travel extensively.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Experience That Is Helpful - But Not Required

We are prepared to train the right candidate. Experience with any of the following is an advantage:

  • PLCs and industrial automation
  • Modbus TCP/IP
  • 0-10 V and 4-20 mA signals
  • VFDs and control panels
  • HVAC or building automation
  • Industrial Ethernet
  • Instrumentation
  • Irrigation systems
  • Greenhouse or controlled-environment agriculture

Who Will Be Successful

We are particularly interested in someone who is hands-on, curious, dependable, comfortable traveling, and eager to build a technical career. You should enjoy diagnosing problems and working in the field rather than spending all your time behind a desk.

The successful candidate will initially work under the guidance of experienced Hoogendoorn technical resources and progressively take on more independent installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer-support responsibilities

You should be proficient in:

  • Electrical Troubleshooting
  • Field Service Readiness
  • Equipment Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
  • Electrical Panel Installation
  • Equipment Installation & Wiring
  • Equipment Repair & Maintenance
  • Equipment Installation

Machines & technologies you'll use:

  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) (Beckoff)
