Field Service Technician, Mid-Atlantic Territory

Do you enjoy hands-on technical work, solving problems, working directly with customers, and traveling to different locations? GMM Pfaudler US Inc. is seeking a Field Service Technician (FST) to support customers throughout our Mid-Atlantic territory.

In this role, you will travel to customer facilities to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair glass-lined steel process equipment. Because every customer and service assignment is different, this position offers variety, independence, and the opportunity to apply your mechanical skills in the field. 

Travel Requirement: This position requires extensive travel, approximately 85 to 90%, by air and/or company vehicle depending on the customer location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As a Field Service Technician, you will:

• Inspect glass-lined steel process equipment at customer locations and determine appropriate repair requirements. 
• Perform a variety of field repairs, including drive repairs, accessory replacement, equipment rigging, tantalum repairs, Teflon repairs, and weld repairs. 
• Perform diagnostic and inspection testing, including ultrasonic, dye penetrant, electrical, glass and metal substrate thickness, and Statiflux testing. 
• Perform jacket-cleaning services, including equipment setup and chemical analysis of cleaning solutions. 
• Enter vessels and confined spaces as required to inspect equipment and complete service work. 
• Maintain an accurate inventory of assigned tools and equipment. 
• Complete service reports and other required documentation accurately and on time. 
• Develop and maintain professional customer relationships while representing the company at customer locations. 
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

• Associate degree (A.A.S.) from a two-year college or technical school preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. 
• 3 to 5 years of millwright, industrial maintenance, mechanical repair, or related experience preferred. 
• Welding experience is a plus. 
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. 
• Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry when measuring tantalum repairs. 
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills with the ability to professionally represent GMM Pfaudler US Inc. at customer locations. 
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. 
• Strong time-management and organizational skills, along with the ability to take initiative in a field-service environment. 

Travel

This position requires approximately 85 to 90% travel to customer locations. Travel may be by air or company vehicle depending on the assignment. 

Physical Demands

This is an active, hands-on field position. While performing the duties of the job, employees may be required to stand, walk, sit, use their hands, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The position may also require entering vessels and confined spaces and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds. 

Specific vision requirements include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

Work Environment

Field Service Technicians work in a variety of industrial and customer environments. Depending on the assignment, employees may encounter wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical equipment, elevated work areas, confined spaces, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, temperature extremes, electrical hazards, vibration, and elevated noise levels.
