Responsibilities of the Field Service Technician include, but are not limited to:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and perform major and minor repair work on motors, pumps, hydraulic equipment, compressors, controls, valves, and related equipment.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on pumps, motors, engines, and compressors.
  • Operate a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric and air driven tools.
  • Inspect, adjust, and replace necessary units and related parts in the performance of repair and maintenance work.
  • ​Fabricate and modify parts and equipment, as necessary.
  • Evaluate status of mechanical equipment and perform needed repair.
  • Maintain records, prepare reports and other specialized maintenance records of equipment and mechanical equipment.
  • Examine pumps for malfunctioning and locate damage or wear, such as blowout packing, misalignment of pump shaft, slippage of drive belt, worn bearings, or need for lubrication.
  • Perform repairs, such as cleaning impellers, repacking stuffing boxes, tightening glands, and replacing bearings.

Qualifications of the Field Service Technician include, but are not limited to:

  • 5+ years of mechanic experience.
  • Experience working with pumps and other rotating equipment.
  • Knowledge of welding and hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities.
  • You must be able to carry out assigned projects to their completion; communicate effectively with and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the public.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a Commercial Driver's License.
  • Acceptable driving record according to company guidelines.

Additional Information:

Physical Demand: The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs unassisted, and 75 pounds assisted.

Requires the maintenance of physical conditioning necessary to operate motorized vehicles and equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to handle, feel and operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is routinely required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk sit, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Working Conditions: Employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and or in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.


Training/Certifications: Some specialized training or two years mechanic experience is recommended but not required.


Shift Time/Overtime: 7:00am to 4:00pm. Employee is subject to call back after hours, weekend assignment and to respond to emergency situations on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week in addition to normally scheduled hours.

Travel: Must have or be willing to obtain a Commercial Driver's License. Acceptable driving record according to company guidelines.


Education: High school or GED equivalent.
