Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to support our Jenbacher gas engine fleet in the Abilene, TX area. This role performs hands-on electrical and mechanical field service work, including commissioning, troubleshooting, scheduled maintenance, and minor overhauls on Jenbacher gas engines ranging from0.25 MW to 9.5 MW. These engines operate on natural gas and alternative fuels such as biogas, landfill gas, and industrial waste gases.

Pay: $36 - 43/hr

Schedule: Monday - Friday, some weekends

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled maintenance and service activities in accordance with Jenbacher maintenance protocols
  • Conduct electrical and mechanical inspections, measurements, and component replacements
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical, mechanical, and control system issues
  • Perform minor engine repairs outside of planned maintenance when required
  • Interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics, mechanical drawings, and historical engine data
  • Support commissioning activities and system startups
  • Coordinate with third-party suppliers and subcontractors as needed
  • Provide customers with service updates, progress reports, and technical explanations
  • Maintain ownership of assigned customer sites to maximize engine reliability
  • Prepare detailed service reports documenting work performed, materials used, and follow-up recommendations
  • Maintain tools, spare parts inventory, and company vehicle in safe, clean, and approved condition
  • Submit timesheets, expense reports, EHS documentation, and job reports in a timely manner
  • Follow all Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Prior Field Service Technician experience (automotive, diesel, power generation, or heavy equipment)
  • Strong electrical knowledge, including wiring panels and alternators
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems
  • Basic PLC and VFD knowledge
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel, including some occasional overnight travel
  • Ability to work independently in remote field environments
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to meet and maintain company vehicle insurability requirements
  • Willingness to work remotely and in field-based environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Jenbacher engines or similar reciprocating natural gas engines
  • Power generation industry experience
  • Familiarity with gas engines and alternators
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to explain technical information clearly to customers
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, and logic control software
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
