SUMMARY
The job of a Service Technician is a critical one. Roadtec equipment is sold all over the world and Service Technicians are expected to service the customers in their service coverage area as well as travel to whatever destination is necessary to meet the needs of the customer.
A Service Technician performs diagnostic evaluations and analyzes customer complaints in order to resolve any equipment performance issues and bring equipment back into good working order under the direction of the Service Manager.

Service Technician I: Must meet minimum qualifications and become familiar with duties listed in job description.
Service Technician II: As with Service Technician I, plus demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair at least one (1) type of heavy road construction equipment in Astec's product line (e.g., paver, Shuttle Buggy, milling machine or stabilizer), consistently and satisfactorily follow directions and produce product that meets company quality standards within company-specified deadlines and perform duties. Must have successfully completed Introductory Period.
Service Technician III: As with Service Technician II, plus demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair a variety of heavy road construction equipment in Astec's product line (e.g., paver, Shuttle Buggy, milling machine or stabilizer), consistently and satisfactorily complete all duties listed in job description within company-specified deadlines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position a minimum of 25% of the time, move and frequently properly employ objects, tools and/or controls. The employee is frequently required to communicate and exchange accurate information. The employee is regularly required to reach and occasionally attain non-standard physical positions for varying amounts of time. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
The employee must regularly transport up to 50 pounds and occasionally transport up to 100 pounds. Lifting devices must be used or help must be requested for anything over 35 pounds whenever possible.
Required to regularly ascend/descend, balance and work at various heights.
Ability to frequently travel by land and/or air for extended periods of time.
Ability to perform service work at any time day or night without assistance if required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a road construction job site and occasionally exposed to a shop manufacturing environment, climate-controlled office environment and/or trade show environment.
Office environment exposures include regular telephone and computer use. The noise level in the office setting and trade show environment is usually moderate consistent with an office environment.
Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, heights, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be required to work in high places and can occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
Road construction job site exposures include exposure to climate conditions indicative of the geographic location and the season. Field duties require that the employee work in close proximity to heavy roadbuilding equipment (asphalt dump trucks, pavers, cold planers, material transfer vehicles, stabilizers, etc.) and traffic associated with a road construction site. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in this environment is usually loud and may require hearing protection.
The employee is occasionally exposed to travel hazards associated with automobile and/or airplane travel. Overnight and weekly travel is regular but two- to three-week travel to remote locales is required.
