About the Role
The Field Service & Site Execution Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing field service operations and on-site electrical and controls installation activities for SSI automation projects. Serving as SSI’s primary site leader, this individual ensures work is executed safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards while leading field technicians and coordinating third-party installation partners.
This is a player-coach role that combines field leadership with direct technical involvement in installation, startup, troubleshooting, commissioning, and customer support. The ideal candidate brings strong industrial controls and electrical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for driving successful project execution and customer satisfaction.TRAVEL: 60-80% / Variable, dependent on site location
Key Responsibilities
Lead Site Execution
- Serve as SSI’s primary on-site leader for electrical and controls installation projects.
- Direct daily field activities for SSI team members and installation partners.
- Drive installation readiness, work planning, issue resolution, and execution performance.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with approved drawings, schedules, quality standards, and customer requirements.
- Coordinate closely with project managers, engineers, customers, contractors, and other trades to maintain project momentum.
Manage Installation Partners
- Lead and oversee subcontracted electrical installation teams performing SSI work.
- Ensure partners understand project scope, priorities, installation sequencing, and quality expectations.
- Monitor productivity, workmanship, staffing levels, schedule performance, and punch list completion.
- Address performance concerns quickly and drive corrective actions when needed.
- Verify all installation work aligns with SSI standards and customer requirements.
Support and Develop Field Service Teams
- Provide leadership and support to SSI field service technicians and site specialists.
- Establish clear expectations for troubleshooting, reporting, customer interaction, documentation, and project closeout.
- Develop and improve standard work procedures, checklists, and field best practices.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance development of field personnel.
Provide Hands-On Technical Leadership
- Support critical field activities, including:
- Electrical and controls troubleshooting
- Panel inspections and quality audits
- Installation verification and point-to-point validation
- Power-up and I/O checkout activities
- Field modifications and corrective action planning
- Startup, qualification, and turnover readiness
- Lead resolution efforts for high-risk or high-visibility technical issues.
- Provide expert guidance on controls hardware, device installation, electrical systems, network architecture, and field implementation.
Drive Quality and Project Turnover
- Champion field quality standards throughout installation and startup.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of redlines, as-builts, quality records, issue logs, and project documentation.
- Coordinate qualification activities, including verification of:
- Component installation
- Cable terminations
- Panel readiness
- Network connectivity
- Device installation
- I/O testing
- Power distribution systems
- Support turnover package preparation and final customer acceptance activities.
- Drive punch list completion and minimize rework before project closeout.
Build Strong Customer Relationships
- Serve as a key point of contact for customers, site operations teams, general contractors, and trade partners.
- Communicate project progress, risks, challenges, and recovery plans clearly and professionally.
- Participate in daily coordination meetings, site reviews, and turnover readiness discussions.
- Build credibility through strong technical expertise and professional leadership.
- Identify emerging customer needs and relay opportunities and risks to project leadership.
Promote Safety and Compliance
- Enforce SSI safety standards, including PPE requirements, LOTO procedures, stop-work authority, and safe work practices.
- Ensure compliance with customer and site-specific safety requirements.
- Support project-specific environmental, health, and safety plans.
- Partner with safety personnel to maintain a strong safety culture.
- Escalate unsafe conditions, code concerns, or unauthorized work immediately.
Support Pre-Mobilization and Installation Planning
- Contribute to project planning before site mobilization, including:
- Labor and staffing plans
- Subcontractor coordination
- Tool and equipment planning
- Site access and badge preparation
- Temporary power planning
- Material staging and logistics
- Work package readiness
- Review project designs for constructability and identify execution risks early.
- Provide practical field feedback to engineering and project teams to improve installation efficiency and reduce project risk.

Required Qualifications
• 7+ years of experience in industrial automation, electrical installation, controls field execution, commissioning, or field service in complex industrial environments.
• 3+ years of experience leading field teams, subcontractors, or site execution activities.
• Strong experience reading and applying:
- electrical schematics
- panel drawings
- device layouts
- network drawings
- installation packages
• Strong field knowledge of industrial controls and electrical systems, including PLC-based automation environments.
• Ability to manage subcontractors and hold standards for safety, quality, schedule, and documentation.
• Ability to troubleshoot field execution issues logically and drive practical solutions under schedule pressure.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with customers, field teams, and internal stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively to project sites.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in material handling, parcel, distribution, or warehouse automation environments.
• Experience with Rockwell-based systems; Siemens and other platforms are a plus.
• Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Procure, or equivalent.
• Exposure to commissioning, qualification, turnover, and startup support processes.
• Experience working with third-party electrical contractors on large industrial projects.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, redlines, as-builts, and field-driven document feedback.
• OSHA 10OR 30, NFPA 70E, and LOTO training/certification.
