American Crane & Equipment Corporation (ACECO) is currently seeking a Field Service Engineer to join our high-performing Service Team. In this role, you’ll perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on electric overhead traveling cranes and hoists, ensuring safety, performance, and customer satisfaction in the field.

Location of Need: Portland Oregon area with Nationwide Travel requirements. While this is a remote position – we are looking for someone who thrives on the road and values teamwork – even at a distance.

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Perform electrical diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on cranes and hoists
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics (480 VAC / 3 Phase systems)
  • Use advanced electrical testing equipment and precision instruments
  • Program, troubleshoot, and support PLC, VFD, and control systems
  • Operate and maintain field equipment such as hoists, fork trucks, and lifts
  • Work independently at job sites across the U.S. while meeting stringent safety and quality standards
  • Provide clear, thorough documentation and communicate with Service Managers and clients
  • Support shop operations when not in the field

 

What We’re Looking For:

 

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (ASEET minimum)
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in industrial control systems (relays, fuses, contactors, circuits)
  • Proficiency with electrical testing equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and perform advanced troubleshooting
  • Strong computer skills for reporting and diagnostics
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass background checks for nuclear site access
  • Willingness to travel up to 3 months/year, with overnights as needed

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • Experience with overhead cranes and hoists
  • Knowledge of servo motors, Beckhoff drives
  • PLC and VFD programming experience
  • DOT Certification

 

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

 

  • Work at varying heights and in extreme environmental conditions (heat, cold, noise, vibration)
  • Lift and move objects up to 50 lbs
  • Climb ladders and operate in tight or awkward spaces
  • Must follow all safety protocols in shop and field settings
