NOW HIRING: FIELD SERVICE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Remote | Nationwide Travel Required | Portland, OR Region Preferred

Location: Remote (Portland, OR area preferred) with nationwide travel
Schedule: Full-time | Travel required (overnight and extended assignments)
Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience, technical expertise, and market data—top-of-range compensation is reserved for candidates who demonstrate strong, job-relevant experience and independent field capability

If you’re an electrical engineer who prefers solving real problems in the field—and can operate independently while representing the company on-site—this role will feel like a natural fit.

At American Crane & Equipment Corporation (ACECO), we’re looking for a Field Service Electrical Engineer who can diagnose, troubleshoot, and support complex crane and hoist systems across the country.

This is not a desk-based engineering role—this is field execution where you are the technical authority on-site.

You won’t get lost here—your work will be seen, and it will matter.

What This Role Really Is

This is a field-based engineering role—you’ll spend most of your time traveling to customer sites, troubleshooting electrical and control systems, and being accountable for system performance, safety, and customer outcomes with minimal supervision

Who Thrives Here (and Who Doesn’t)

You’ll do well here if you:

  • Take ownership of field issues and solve problems without waiting for direction
  • Are comfortable working independently in customer environments
  • Can communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

This role is likely not a fit if you:

  • Prefer office-based or highly structured engineering work
  • Need constant support or supervision
  • Are not comfortable with travel, field conditions, or customer-facing responsibility

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

  • Learn ACECO service standards, safety expectations, and reporting processes
  • Begin performing diagnostics and troubleshooting with increasing independence
  • Build credibility with customers through professionalism and technical competence
  • Accurately document findings, repairs, and recommendations
  • Take ownership of more complex field assignments

Why Join Our Team at American Crane? (Check us out on YouTube here)

  • Field Authority – Operate as the technical expert on-site
  • Autonomy & Trust – High independence with strong internal support
  • Technical Challenge – Work on complex electrical systems, PLCs, and controls
  • Variety – Diverse environments, equipment, and problem sets
  • Growth – Expand expertise in industrial controls, automation, and crane systems

What You’ll Do

Field Diagnostics & Troubleshooting

  • Perform advanced electrical diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on cranes and hoists
  • Troubleshoot 480 VAC / 3-phase systems, control panels, and industrial equipment
  • Diagnose and resolve PLC, VFD, and automation-related issues

Technical Execution & Field Work

  • Use advanced electrical testing equipment and diagnostic tools
  • Operate and maintain field equipment including hoists, lifts, and forklifts
  • Execute work safely and in compliance with all company and customer standards

Customer Interaction & Communication

  • Communicate findings, recommendations, and system status clearly
  • Represent ACECO professionally at customer sites
  • Build trust through technical competence and reliability

Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete accurate service reports and documentation
  • Track work performed, findings, and follow-up needs
  • Maintain accountability for service quality and reporting accuracy

Travel & Field Support

  • Travel nationwide to support service, commissioning, and troubleshooting
  • Support engineering or shop operations when not in the field
  • Participate in extended or overnight travel assignments as required

What We’re Looking For

Education

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred

Experience
