Power Services Group is launching a Field Machinist Apprentice Program designed to develop the next generation of skilled machinists supporting the power generation industry. This is a paid, hands-on training program combining classroom instruction with real-world experience.

Two Entry Paths Available1. Apprentice Track (Entry-Level – No Experience Required)
- Full program including classroom + hands-on training
- Ideal for candidates new to machining or early in their careers
2. Fast-Track / Experienced Candidate Path
Candidates with prior experience or training may qualify for an accelerated path:
- Skip or reduce classroom portion (based on assessment)
- Focus on hands-on and field training
- Faster progression into a full Field Machinist role
Eligible backgrounds may include:
- Completed registered apprenticeship
- Associate degree or higher in machining
- Prior experience as a manual or CNC machinist
What You’ll Do
As an Apprentice, you will:
- Learn to set up and operate manual machining equipment (lathes, mills, boring machines)
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
- Assist with machining and repair of critical power generation components
- Support field machining operations at customer sites
- Follow all safety procedures and company standards
Program Structure
- Classroom instruction (in partnership with Lanier Technical College)
- Hands-on training at our Gainesville facility
- On-the-job field experience
- Mentorship from experienced machinists and supervisors
- Opportunity to transition into a full-time Field Machinist role upon successful completion
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting Pay:~$18/hour during apprenticeship
- Post-Program Pay:$28/hour upon successful completion of the apprenticeship program
- Overtime opportunities (based on business needs)
- Tuition Support:Company will cover classroom-related costs if FAFSA does not fully cover program fees
- Benefits eligibility in accordance with company policy
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma or GED required
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to read basic measurements or willingness to learn quickly
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Willingness to travel for field assignments (as needed)
- Ability to work in industrial environments (shop and field settings)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, bend, and work in industrial environments for extended periods
- Must be able to safely perform job duties in compliance with company safety standards
