The Facilities Services Technician is responsible for maintaining the appearance, cleanliness, and safety of all outdoor areas throughout the HBI plant site. This position performs landscaping, grounds maintenance, vegetation control, litter removal, and general upkeep of roads, parking lots, drainage systems, and green spaces. The Grounds Keeper supports the Facilities Supervisor in ensuring company property is maintained in a professional, safe, and environmentally compliant condition while promoting a positive image of the facility.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Know, understand, and follow all Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and requirements.
- Perform routine grounds maintenance activities including mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, and weed control.
- Maintain landscaped areas, flower beds, shrubs, trees, and other vegetation located throughout the plant site.
- Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and utility vehicles.
- Remove litter, debris, and other materials from plant grounds, parking lots, roadways, and common areas.
- Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance activities, including storm preparation and recovery efforts.
- Inspect plant grounds and report unsafe conditions, damaged property, or environmental concerns to the Facilities Supervisor.
- Support facility improvement projects including fencing repairs, painting, signage installation, and general site beautification efforts.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of groundskeeping storage areas, equipment, and workspaces.
- Enter completed work and maintenance updates into SAP or other reporting systems.
- Assist contractors and vendors performing grounds or landscaping services on company property.
- Perform other duties assigned as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, lawn care, or related field preferred.
- Experience operating groundskeeping and landscaping equipment preferred.
- Basic knowledge of landscaping practices, vegetation management, and irrigation systems.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, physically demanding industrial environment.
- Must be able to walk long distances and stand/work for extended periods in challenging environmental conditions, including high temperatures, humidity, noise, dust, and uneven terrain.
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; must be able to follow detailed instructions and complete required documentation.
- Reliable transportation to and from the worksite is required.
- Valid Driver's License required
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid TWIC card.
