Job Overview:

Resmed is expanding its American Distribution Operations footprint with a new facility opening in Indianapolis in 2027. The Industrial Facility Operations Manager will lead the design, setup, operational readiness, and ongoing performance of the site. This leader will ensure the facility operates at optimal safety, quality, and cost efficiency levels, while building the technical and operational capabilities needed to support high-volume, automation-driven production and distribution.

This role requires deep expertise in industrial engineering, facilities design, process optimization, facility setup, automation technologies and advanced building systems. The ideal candidate brings technical rigor, cross-functional leadership and the ability to design and continuously improve a world-class operation.

Job Environment

This leader will oversee the planning, design, construction, and optimization of the facility’s infrastructure, equipment, and material flow systems. Responsibilities include facility engineering, maintenance management, throughput optimization, capacity modeling, vendor and contractor oversight, budgeting and regulatory compliance. The role requires a strategic and data-driven engineering mindset combined with hands-on technical capability and strong leadership presence.

Let’s Talk About Responsibilities

Facilities, Maintenance & Engineering Setup

  • Lead the setup of a brownfield project, ensuring scalability, optimized material flow, and compliance with engineering and safety standards.

  • Oversee and direct personnel and contractors in Material Handling Equipment (MHE) installation/repair and building services (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, pest control, janitorial, etc.).

  • Manage Building Management Systems (BMS), electrical panels, critical power infrastructure, and facility utilities capacity planning.

Industrial Engineering & Operational Optimization

  • Perform capacity modeling, throughput analysis, ergonomic assessments, and workflow optimization for production and distribution operations.

  • Develop engineered labor standards, time studies, and equipment utilization models to improve productivity and reduce downtime.

  • Partner with operations to design lean layouts, optimize storage strategies, and drive waste elimination across the facility.

  • Evaluate and recommend automation, robotics, and material flow solutions based on ROI, cycle time, and efficiency analyses.

Automation & Technical Systems

  • Ensure the optimal performance of automation technologies including high-density goods-to-person systems, PLC/SCADA systems, WCS/WMS integrations, and robotics.

  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for automation failures and implement corrective and preventive engineering actions.

  • Collaborate with internal automation engineering teams to integrate new technologies and scale system capabilities.

Team Leadership & Maintenance Management

  • Build, coach, and lead a high-performing facilities, maintenance, and industrial engineering team.

  • Establish a robust preventive and predictive maintenance program with clear KPIs, scheduling, and spare parts planning.

  • Provide 24/7 leadership support for critical facility or equipment issues.

Compliance, Cost Management & Vendor Oversight

  • Develop and manage department budgets while aligning expenditures with operational and capital plans.

  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, SLAs, and performance metrics.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, local, state, federal and industry regulatory requirements.

  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, energy efficiency, quality, and facility sustainability.

Strategic Leadership & Reporting

  • Lead facility modifications: cost estimation, engineered layouts, workflow design, bid process and contract award.

  • Act as a change leader during upgrades, expansions, or automation deployments to ensure minimal operational disruption.

  • Provide timely reporting to senior leadership on facility performance, maintenance metrics, engineering improvement projects, cost, safety, and quality outcomes.

Skills & Competencies

Technical & Engineering Skills

  • Strong knowledge of engineering concepts: electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, controls, and automation systems.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, engineered layouts, schematics, and construction drawings.

  • Ability to interpret electrical panel schematics and control wiring diagrams.

  • Expertise in industrial engineering methodologies: Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, time studies, line balancing, ergonomics and simulation modeling.

  • Experience optimizing operations from scratch in brownfield/greenfield environments.

  • Hands-on experience with BMS, robotics/cobots, conveyors (MDR, NBC, NBS), smart sensors, scanners, and PLC/SCADA systems.

Leadership & Behavioral Skills

  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities with the ability to develop technical and engineering talent.

  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and communication skills.

  • Competence in problem solving, strategic decision-making, and vendor negotiations.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally across Operations, Engineering, Quality, Automation, HSE, and Manufacturing.

Let’s Talk About Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in Facilities Management, Maintenance Management, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering leadership roles.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Maintenance Management, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical, and automation systems.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

  • Experience conducting time studies, workflow design, and throughput optimization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical certifications in facilities, automation, electrical systems, or industrial engineering disciplines (Lean Six Sigma, PMP, CMRP, etc.).

  • Experience with warehouse automation systems (goods-to-person, WMS, WCS, PLC/SCADA).

  • Prior experience in automated manufacturing, distribution, or large-scale fulfillment environments.

  • Knowledge of energy efficiency strategies, sustainability programs, and advanced BMS technologies.

  • Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives using industrial engineering methodologies.
