Job Overview:

Description

Job Summary

The Fabricator II is an experienced-level manufacturing position responsible for independently performing standard fabrication and welding tasks on stainless steel tanks, vessels, and assemblies. This role operates semi-independently and is expected to produce quality welds, interpret blueprints without assistance, and contribute to production output without direct supervision on routine tasks. Candidates should have 2–5 years of fabrication experience and hold or be eligible to obtain a basic welding certification (AWS D1.1 or equivalent).

Compensation: $24.00 – $28.00 per hour (rate determined by in-person skills assessment)

Employment Type & Term

JBF Stainless is growing and hiring for a project-based position anticipated to run through approximately June 2026, with the potential to transition into a permanent role for the right candidate. We are transparent about this upfront — some people are looking for project work, and we respect that. Candidates who perform well and where continued work exists may have the opportunity to extend or move into a full-time permanent position. JBF Stainless will provide at least two (2) weeks' notice if a position is ending or not being extended, and we ask the same in return.

Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job. See Accommodation section below.

  • Independently fabricate and weld stainless steel tanks, vessels, platforms, and structural components to blueprint specifications.
  • Perform MIG and introductory TIG welding on stainless steel; maintain weld quality consistent with AWS D1.1 and applicable shop standards.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, weld symbols, and bill-of-materials without direct guidance.
  • Set up welding equipment, select appropriate wire/filler, and adjust parameters for material thickness and joint configuration.
  • Perform fit-up, tacking, and alignment of components prior to final weld.
  • Perform dimensional verification using calipers, squares, and measuring tapes; document and correct discrepancies.
  • Use material-specific inspection methods to verify surface finish and weld integrity; report non-conformances to QA-QC.
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and man lifts as authorized.
  • Identify and correct minor fit-up issues; escalate structural or design concerns to Fabricator III or Production Supervisor.
  • Maintain stainless steel surface integrity: minimize cross-contamination from carbon steel tools and abrasives.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workstation; store tooling and consumables per shop procedures.
  • Wear all required PPE including respiratory protection when grinding or welding stainless steel.
  • Follow all OSHA, ASME, and JBF shop safety procedures; report hazards immediately.
  • Mentor and assist Fabricator I employees on basic techniques and safety procedures as directed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Marginal (Non-Essential) Functions

The following duties are secondary functions that could be reassigned to another employee if a reasonable accommodation is required:

  • Assist with shop layout and material staging for incoming projects.
  • Participate in tool and equipment maintenance checks.
  • Support shipping and receiving of fabricated assemblies as needed.

Requirements

Job Qualifications and Minimum Requirements

  • 2–5 years of hands-on fabrication and welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • MIG welding proficiency required; TIG welding experience on stainless steel strongly preferred.
  • AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Certification or equivalent preferred; AWS D1.6 (Stainless Steel) a strong plus.
  • Ability to independently read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols.
  • Proficiency with measuring tools (calipers, squares, tape measures).
  • Knowledge of stainless steel as primary work material: material properties, contamination prevention, and surface finish requirements.
  • Familiarity with basic tolerance standards and inspection methods (Ra roughness values a plus).
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 40 lbs., and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane (certification provided if needed).
  • Strong attention to quality and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must pass an in-person skills assessment prior to offer.

Working Conditions

This position operates in a medium-noise, non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility with regular exposure to metal dust, fumes, and grinding residue. Stainless steel grinding and welding operations may generate hexavalent chromium particulates; proper respiratory PPE is required and provided. Machinery is in operation throughout the facility. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) — including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed footwear — is required at all times on the shop floor.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.

This role requires the employee to regularly stand for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift), walk, use hands to handle tools and materials, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively in a loud environment. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 60 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and color discrimination for quality inspection purposes.

Accommodation

JBF Stainless is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and applicable state and local law.
