Job Description:
The Fabricator performs tasks required to roll, form, fabricate, and weld stainless steel sheet metal products such as parts, forming tubes, frameworks, or subassemblies for machinery, following job orders or blueprints. The role includes recommending process improvements to reduce touch time and consistently meet delivery deadlines. The Fabricator encourages collaboration and the development of team members, fostering an environment where they can reach their full potential. Additionally, the role actively supports continuous improvement initiatives as part of the company’s Lean journey.
Job Responsibilities
- Rotate through all assembly process steps using hand tools, rollers, TIG welders, grinders, buffers, and assembly fixtures to produce fully tested assemblies (FTA) based on engineering specifications.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as calipers.
- Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
- Identify defective material, unusual conditions, or operating difficulties, and report these issues to the supervisor with detailed descriptions to enable corrective actions.
- Complete necessary documentation to meet quality and production requirements.
- Actively participate in team meetings to communicate and resolve cost, quality, or production issues; understand and apply the engineering change request process.
- Perform all tasks in compliance with established safety procedures.
- Maintain equipment and the work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of experience in metal fabrication.
- Demonstrated proficiency in TIG welding on stainless steel sheet metal, including experience working with 16-gauge (0.062-inch) stainless steel.
- 3+ years of experience in grinding and polishing stainless steel sheet metal using manual grinders (3+ years preferred).
- Candidates must be able to pass a welding test on 16-gauge stainless steel during the interview process.
- Familiarity with machined part fabrication and related tools/equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret moderately complex blueprints, specifications, and machined part prints.
- Proficiency in TIG welding, including an understanding of TIG welding processes using tungsten electrodes and inert gas.
- Strong math skills, including the ability to perform fractional, decimal, and metric conversions.
- Manual dexterity to operate manual rolling equipment and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime as required by workload demands.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a team-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with brake press operation.
- Familiarity with metal weld cleanup and polishing on stainless steel sheet metal.
- Prior experience working with 16-gauge (0.062-inch) stainless steel in fabrication, welding, or polishing.
