Applied Composites (AC) is seeking a Manufacturing Technician 4 who will be responsible for acting as a technical specialist and performs complex mechanical assembly operations, under moderate guidance and in accordance with company policy and safety procedures.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Assemble products with the use of fasteners, adhesives, sealants, etc. using standard tools and fabrication equipment.
  • Perform tasks associated with product and tool build including secondary bonding, potting inserts, curing, and wet laminating.
  • Adhere to all documentation including travelers, build manuals, red books, work instructions, quality procedures, inspection sheets, and drawings as applicable to the work being performed.
  • Participate in brainstorming/problem solving with Engineering & Production personnel to solve related problems.
  • Applies process specifications governing the production of product within an assigned cell, records production time and quantity data at the cell as required
  • Assists with training /development regarding tasks in other production cells/locations
  • Actively demonstrates all safety policies and procedures 
  • Read and follow basic instructions and diagrams in English
  • Identify required fundamental skills and create hands on simulations to develop these skills (Demonstrate "Best Practices", assists, and provides direction to new hires)
  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Interfaced with leads, supervisors, and engineers to solve problems and improve processes.
  • Initiate process changes for quality improvements
  • Perform physical and environmental checks and document work onto manufacturing travelers
  • Apply skill to build semi-complex ply-buildups under minimal supervision, ensuring that the plies are well-compacted
  • Ability to manage time to get work completed on schedule
  • Cooperate with implementation of lean manufacturing principles. Make lean manufacturing suggestions where needed.
  • Provide composites processing troubleshooting to existing production line
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

 


Job Specifications:


Education:  
A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations
Years’ Experience:  5-7 years of relevant experience


 Skills:

  • Capable of performing complex mechanical and/or electromechanical assembly operations
  • Ability to read and interpret company documents, such as safety rules, operating/manufacturing instructions, policies and procedures
  • Able to perform basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)      
  • Good manual dexterity required to work with small parts
  • Skilled problem-solver: Exercises judgment, based on previous experience, practices and precedents, to identify and solve problems that arise with little or no precedent
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Can be trusted to train or lead others in manufacturing complicated components. 
  • Works well under pressure and goes above-and-beyond when needed
  • Knowledgeable and well-versed in composites and composites terms. Understands the overall composites manufacturing process (design, tooling, layup, cure, trim, assembly, and inspection)
  • Knowledge in the aerospace industry is desired.
  • Ability to work independently and interface with cross-functional disciplines; using excellent interpersonal skills to drive tasks to completion
  • Self-motivated with problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Team player, highly detailed, and driven
  • Ability to adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities.
  • Possess excellent hand skills with the ability to use production tools such as: power drills, pneumatic sanders, surface grinders, angle grinders, pencil grinders, and basic hand tools
  • Possesses high mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Ability to follow instructions explicitly or innovate, depending on the situation.
  • Provide ongoing manufacturing support and engineering insight to other support staff.
  • Ability to understand the implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of continuous improvement environment
  • Ability to write Standard Work Instructions (SWI) for statements of work in manufacturing transitions.
  • Ability to read design specifications and technical drawings.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and to work alongside peers.
