PTM Corporation is seeking an experienced Fabrication Technician to join our Prototype Manufacturing team. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for precision metal fabrication, welding, prototype assembly, and restoring Class A automotive body panels to paint-ready condition.
You'll work on prototype vehicle components, custom fabrication projects, and precision sheet metal assemblies using advanced fabrication equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

What You'll Do
- Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair precision sheet metal components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and product specifications.
- Lay out, measure, and mark materials using shop mathematics and layout techniques.
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including:
- Press brakes
- Shears
- Routers
- Forming rolls
- Metal punch equipment
- Shape sheet metal using hand tools, anvils, blocks, and hammer forms.
- Trim, grind, deburr, sand, polish, and finish fabricated parts.
- Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, dial indicators, and measuring equipment.
- Qualify stamped parts using 3mm check fixtures.
- Set up and operate press brakes for low-tonnage forming and clinch hardware installation.
- Repair, restore, and metal-finish prototype Class A body panels, including:
- Doors
- Hoods
- Fenders
- Quarter panels
- Tailgates
- Repair dents, weld replacement metal, and prepare panels to paint-ready condition.
- Align structural and exterior prototype panels using fixtures and check aids.
- Perform manual hemming of prototype panels.
- Operate pneumatic tools including grinders, air hammers, orbital sanders, drills, and related equipment.
- Perform MIG, TIG, and Resistance Spot Welding.
- Record production and inventory using Plex ERP.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area while following all safety procedures.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 5 years of fabrication experience.
- Strong sheet metal fabrication skills.
- Experience repairing and finishing Class A body panels.
- Proficiency with MIG, TIG, and resistance spot welding.
- Experience operating fabrication equipment including press brakes and shears.
- Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Strong metal finishing and paint preparation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship.
- Ability to diagnose damage and determine effective repair methods.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred
- Automotive prototype or low-volume manufacturing experience.
- Experience with prototype body build or concept vehicle fabrication.
- ASE Certification.
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience with Plex ERP systems.
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, bend, and move throughout the workday.
- Work safely around fabrication equipment and moving machinery.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with moderate to loud noise levels.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
