Purpose
The Fab Technician – CNC Laser Operator will program our state-of-the-art Mitsubishi and Amada fiber lasers to run jobs and operate lights out to maximize capacity. This person will work to ensure materials are on hand and schedules are adhered to in order to produce maximum output.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain laser fabrication equipment
- Programming state-of-the-art lasers using Ncell (with CAM)
- Ensuring laser schedules are met and kept, utilizing lights out operations
- Monitor and adjust manufacturing parameters to ensure optimal product quality and yield.
- Assist with Breakout and Material Handling duties to support production
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and work with Maintenance and Engineering to optimize process performance.
- Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to improve manufacturing techniques
- Create master program for computer-controlled laser machine
- Develop program to meet on-time delivery schedules and best usage of material
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in performing set-ups and operating machines
- Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
Skills and Requirements
- Experience: 2+ years in laser-based manufacturing
- Hands-on experience with laser processing, alignment, and calibration
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and process documentation
- Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Adjust work routines and schedule to meet scheduling demands.
- Some travel between local, Twin Cities locations may be required
Preferred Qualifications
- High School diploma are GED required
- Previous experience with fibers lasers and CO₂ laser systems
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software and automation tools
- Understanding of optical coatings and laser safety standards
- Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner cross-functionally and with a dynamic leadership team, internal IT team, and vendor support
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the mission
- Flexible and able to multi-task; can work with an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions
- Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems
