The Fabrication Engineer is responsible for designing, planning, and overseeing the manufacturing process of fabricated products, including selecting materials, interpreting engineering drawings, optimizing fabrication techniques, ensuring quality control, and managing production schedules to create components or structures, often utilizing machinery like lasers, hydraulic brakes, and CNC tube processing, while adhering to safety standards and project deadlines; essentially bridging the gap between design and production by ensuring the efficient and accurate fabrication of parts.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Analyzing engineering drawings and blueprints to understand product specifications and ensure they meet structural and functional requirements.
- Developing detailed fabrication plans to optimize production efficiency.
- Knowledge/background in various fabrication equipment like fiber optic lasers, press brakes, and CNC tube processing equipment.
- Inspecting fabricated parts to identify defects, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
- Estimating part/material costs, optimizing production processes to minimize waste, and managing project timelines.
- Collaborating with design engineers to ensure the manufacturability of parts.
- Creating and maintaining fabrication documentation around preventive maintenance of equipment.
- Optimizing fabrication processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Troubleshooting and resolving fabrication-related issues.
- Implementing fabrication equipment and tooling as required.
- Training fabrication operators as required on equipment and new part introduction.
- Recommend design approaches considering customer specifications, product or component performance requirements, and fabrication processes.
- Apply methods to determine fabrication standards.
- Recommend methods to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost within the fabrication setting.
- Working with in-house Maintenance to establish and uphold Preventive Maintenance practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a fabrication environment.
- Background in laser cutting and sheet metal forming practices.
- Proficiency in design and drafting software such as: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Inventor.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Detailed ERP system knowledge is preferred.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes like laser cutting and forming sheet metal.
- Experience with CNC programming and operation.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and or Six Sigma.
- Experience in new product development teams.
- Experience in justification, purchasing, and qualifying capital equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Exposure to non-temperature controlled environment.
- Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
- Moderate noise level.
