POSITION SUMMARY

The extruder operator is responsible for ensuring smooth operation of the machines and the overall quality of all lining material used in the metal cap and phenolic cap departments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Track which material is mixed with virgin material.
  • Label color of material on each box for tracking purposes.
  • Use caliper to measure for correct thickness of the material and if any defects are discovered, make adjustments to bring into specification.
  • Use rulers/scales to measure for the correct width of the material and if any defects are discovered, bring into specification.
  • Track and correctly label material color during each phase of the process.
  • Grind slugs and rolls to the appropriate color on the “extruder color code chart.”
  • Pull completed rolls off machine and place onto skid.
  • Troubleshoot issues at Extruder and adjust machine speed as needed.
  • Changeover the equipment setup and/or adjustment blades to produce appropriate width and thickness as required by the work order.
  • Communicate any issues with supervisor, off-shift operators, QC or maintenance as needed.
  • Keep work area clean.
  • May be assigned role of trainer if authorized.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).

Experience:

6 plus months experience in a manufacturing environment.

Able to take accurate measurements with rulers and calipers.
