Job Overview:

Allways Precision is a recognized OEM leader in providing the centerless grinding industry with; Re-manufactured centerless grinders, automation systems, aftermarket support, and precision grinding technology serving customers throughout North American, European, and Asian markets.

We are seeking an experienced Automation Technician to join our team in Plainfield, Illinois. This position is intended for an experienced automation professional who can independently support the assembly, integration, troubleshooting, installation, and commissioning of automated manufacturing equipment.

Position Summary

The Automation Technician will be responsible for the assembly, integration, testing, troubleshooting, installation, and support of automation systems used with Allways Precision centerless grinding machines and related manufacturing equipment.

The ideal candidate will have prior hands-on experience working with industrial automation, electrical controls, sensors, motors, pneumatics, robotics, and automated machinery and be comfortable troubleshooting equipment from initial assembly through final customer installation.

  • Have a strong visual perception of how things are assembled.
  • Have shop math skills and basic understanding of measuring.
  • Build your own tool inventory as you learn. (A start list will be given at interview)
  • Good communication skills.
  • A professional working attitude must be a team player.
  • Able to safely lift 50 pounds.
  • Any background in hydraulic, electrical, mechanical systems, or machine building is a plus.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, integrate, and troubleshoot industrial automation systems and equipment.
  • Build and integrate automation equipment integrated with centerless grinding machines and other manufacturing systems.
  • Be capable of troubleshooting mechanical, pneumatic, sensor, and controls-related issues.
  • Install and configure sensors, switches, motors, actuators, valves, and other automation components.
  • Read and interpret mechanical assembly drawings, and equipment documentation.
  • Perform functional testing and debugging of automation equipment prior to customer shipment.
  • Work with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering to identify and resolve design or integration issues.
  • Document equipment changes, troubleshooting findings, and recommended improvements.
  • Perform other automation, manufacturing, and technical duties as required

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on industrial automation, machine building, maintenance, or related experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.

  • Strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings.

  • Experience assembling and commissioning automated machinery.

  • Ability to use electrical and mechanical diagnostic tools.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations.

  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a cross-functional team.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.

  • Able to lift 50 pounds

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Custom machine building
  • Industrial robotics
  • Pneumatic systems
  • Material handling systems
  • Machine vision or sensors
  • Automated manufacturing equipment
  • Equipment installation and commissioning
