Summary:
The Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for manufacturing plastic injection molded parts, tooling (including: new molds, modifications, transfers), and Piece-part pricing.
This involves analyzing product designs, materials, labor, and machine time to determine pricing for customer quotes. The Estimator will collaborate closely with sales team to ensure accurate and competitive bids. The Estimator must specialize in thermoplastic injection molding – and must understand the unique cost drivers of that process (e.g. resin material prices, cycle times, mold fabrication costs).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Meets and collaborates with the sales department to clarify customer requirements and pricing strategy
Coordinate with manufacturing, tooling, and supply chain teams to validate assumptions
Reviews and analyzes existing and proposed processes, staff, and materials; identifies cost-reduction opportunities.
Determines needs for additional staff, machinery, materials, and other resources.
Estimates costs of new equipment or capital investment necessary for production.
Drafts cost estimates for projects based on data analysis and research; distributes reports to engineers, contractors, clients, and other stakeholders.
Prepares reports forecasting production scenarios; makes recommendations based on findings.
Identifies the pricing structure required for products to sell at profit.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
