Equipment Operators - Skid Steer, Mini X, and Forklift

Plains, TX

General Information/Job Summary

Depending upon the assigned area, the Equipment Operator, under general supervision, must be able to operate a skid steer, mini X and forklift- rough terrain

The type(s) of equipment operated varies according to assigned area. Incumbents may work independently or as a member of a work crew and receive direction from a supervisor or lead in their assigned area.

Under appropriate supervision and/or designated direction, the Equipment Operator performs skilled work involved in construction, maintenance, and repairs; performs related and other work as required to maintain facilities in a safe and efficient condition.

Responsibilities

• Operates medium to large sized motorized equipment used in construction, repair, and maintenance work.
• Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required. Pick up spoils from job site excavations.
• Delivers to and picks up various equipment and materials from job sites.
• Knowledge of safe working and operating practices including traffic control and job site protection.
• Inspects, analyzes, and assists in the determination of the work to be done.
• Develops effective work plans, gives assignments and instructions to subordinates, and supervises their work.
• Determines methods and materials needed to accomplish assigned maintenance, repair, or construction.
• Performs lock-out and tag-out procedures to secure, deactivate equipment, and checks local switch point to ensure proper lock-out procedures are used.
• Ability to organize and carry out complex work projects involving the use of mechanized equipment.
• Performs work area clean-up and safety-related duties.
• Requires working in operating facilities and observing and abiding by additional safety policies and procedures.
• Gives suitable assignments to helpers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience in work involving a variety of layout, installation, and maintenance tasks.
• Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Possess a valid drivers’ license with a good driving record.

• On a continual basis, promotes an awareness of environmental, health and safety policies to ensure a safe working environment and ensures compliance with all accompany policies.
• Ability to pass drug test as mandated by the Saulsbury Industries and Department of Transportation anti-drug program.
• Must attend and successfully complete Saulsbury Industries safety training education.
• Attends safety meetings and specialty training as directed by management.
• Attends various training classes as may be assigned by management.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
• Ability to take needed safety precautions in performing the work.

• Ability to work 50 or more hours each week.

Cognitive Requirements

• Reading comprehension skill to understand work orders, written instructions, technical manuals, safety procedures, and parts catalogs.
• Mathematical skill to perform basic calculations.
• Oral communication skills for routine and technical information exchange with coworkers, supervisors, or other personnel
• Skill in using hand signals.
• Ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions of some complexity and to learn quickly from explanations and demonstrations.
• Ability to communicate with others and to assimilate and understand information, in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
• Ability to operate mechanized equipment in a skilled and safe manner.
• Ability to evaluate work conditions and quality, and to make decisions regarding course of actions (decision making)
• Knowledge of construction operations and procedures and of the proper use of mechanized equipment, including cleaning, greasing, servicing, and making minor adjustments and repairs to equipment
• Ability to organize and carry out fairly complex work projects involving the use of mechanized equipment.
• Ability to load, unload, and deliver equipment and materials and to transfer mechanized equipment from one location to another.
• Ability to check, clean, service and assist in making minor and emergency repairs to mechanized equipment.

• Obtained license as necessary to work in regulated states and municipalities.
