Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision builds prototype automotive airbag inflators for internal and external customers. Performs simple routine technical tasks from detailed standardized procedures. Builds energetic subassemblies according to written instructions. Operates specialized welding, assembly and test equipment. Performs special test procedures and records results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Builds prototype automotive airbag inflators according to written procedures and process steps
2. Sets up and operates laboratory machinery such as laser welder, resistance welder, gas fill machine, friction welder and others
3. Builds energetics assemblies from drawings and written instructions
4. Performs conformance tests (weld sections, leak checks, electrical test, hydroburst, etc) to verify product quality
5. Assembles special test fixtures to evaluate energetic material performance according to written instructions
6. Works closely with and follows direction from design and applications engineers
7. Maintains energetics inventory in strict accordance with BATF (US Bureau of Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms) regulations
8. Records data for evaluations and calls attention to deviations from the established standard
9. Proactive in safety program and follows all written and implied safety rules
10. Other duties as assigned
WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work will take place in a shop environment. Employee may be required to work weekends, holidays and be on-call on occasion. While performing the duties of this job, employees will be exposed to mechanical or chemical processes requiring the use of personal protective equipment. The employee will be expected to have excellent hearing. The employee may encounter controlled air conditions with frequent air changes, environmental exposure, lift up to 45 pounds, and will be in close contact with energetic “live” inflator systems during normal work activities.

Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or *equivalent, with one (1) year of related experience. Formal training in area of specialization preferred, such as training received from a technical trade school or military technical school. Must have mechanical aptitude demonstrated in the successful completion of the mechanical aptitude test. Must have the ability to read, understand and follow written instructions and technical drawings. Attention to detail is a must. Manual dexterity is required as well as the ability to stand for eight (8) hours. Must have basic computer skills and be familiar with various computer programs such as Excel, Word, etc. with an emphasis on spreadsheet functions. Must have excellent communication and multi-tasking skills.
