Job Description:

Parsons Corporation is a multi-billion dollar company with contracts and offices across the world in many industries. We are seeking an Environmental Scientist/Forester for a position based at the U.S. Army Garrison Hohenfels Training Area (HTA), Bavaria, Germany. The US and German militaries, along with their many allies, use and maintain millions of hectares of land all over the world. This full-time position is part of a team of highly motivated environmental professionals from across Europe and the US who ensure that these lands are maintained and improved for long-term sustainability.

This exciting and challenging role will allow you to apply and develop your environmental assessment skills to assist in the maintenance and improvement of the lands within the HTA. Work will take place on an active military installation and will consist of approximately 50% field work and 50% office work.

Project Tasks Include:

  • Acquire data and assess information to assess the capability and maximize the sustainability of lands for military training.
  • Develop work plans and protocols.
  • Collect and assess land use and land cover data to include vegetation cover, hydrologic measurements, erosion and sedimentation, and trail and open land assessments
  • Identify and map rehabilitation projects and monitor project success.
  • Work with other HTA land managers to develop sustainable practices.
  • Develop environmental Geospatial Information System (GIS) data layers.
  • Provide environmental outreach and education.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • University degree in environmental science or a related field such as forestry.
  • Experience in collecting environmental data.
  • Ability to perform monitoring tasks outdoors on uneven terrain and in inclement weather on an active military training installation.
  • Ability to coordinate and build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Valid & Clean Driving License.
  • Clean Police Background Check from current place of residence.
  • Eligibility to work in the EU.
  • Living in Germany for at least 12 months prior to eventual start date.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Experience with Global Positioning Systems (GPS)
