The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for implementing EHS improvement processes at the site. The EHS Manager is responsible for developing and leading EHS programs and processes, including the engagement and alignment of employees at all levels of the site that lead to injury and incident-free performance and a robust safety culture. The EHS Manager is a member of the site’s leadership team and is expected to support all facets of the business.
The EHS Manager acts as the face of EHS to the whole workforce to ensure that all staff buy-in and implement best practice throughout all production, laboratory, and office areas, ultimately leading to their improved health and safety and lower impact on the environment.
The ideal candidate will be able to work independently with a hands-on approach while aligning the EHS needs of the workforce with that of the business while ensuring compliance with both internal JM requirements as well as external regulatory requirement.
Oversee and manage day-to-day Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs and activities
Conduct job analysis and ergonomic assessments to ensure safety and compliance
Manage regulatory compliance, including wastewater and solid waste permits
Handle reporting to regulatory agencies (e.g., air permits with support from consultants)
Lead and manage safety systems, ensuring consistent safety practices across the facility
Coordinate third-party audits, ISO audits, and certifications, ensuring compliance with standards
Act as Site Incident commander and liaison with outside emergency services
Serve as the primary point of contact for health and safety matters
Maintain and enforce safety protocols for the plant, including security and emergency preparedness
Collaborate effectively with regulatory agencies, upper management, and chemical operators on the floor
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Sciences or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Advanced knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety regulations
Experience working with regulatory agencies, with the ability to understand and address their requirements
Previous experience in a similar EHS role is preferred (e.g., familiarity with regulatory compliance and safety programs)
Strong interpersonal skills, able to effectively interact with and understand the concerns of staff, management, and regulatory bodies
Ability to train and educate staff on company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements, specifically JM practices
Problem-solving mindset, focused on finding solutions rather than just reporting issues
Ability to work collaboratively and address safety and regulatory challenges with a proactive approach
