Job Overview:

Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Supervisor I – North Augusta, SC

Location Requirement:
This position is based at TTX's railcar repair facility in North Augusta, SC. The successful candidate is expected to work onsite at the North Augusta facility four (4) days per week and may work remotely one (1) day per week, subject to business needs.

Travel Requirement:
Supports approximately 19 railcar repair, field maintenance, and operational facilities throughout the Northeastern and Memphis/Atlanta Region. Candidates should expect 30-50% travel, including overnight travel, for facility visits, inspections, investigations, training, and compliance activities. Mileage and business travel expenses are reimbursed in accordance with company policy.

Job Summary

Carry out the day-to-day operations of the EHS department and contribute to the application of effective Health, Safety, and Environmental management by providing technical support to TTX's North Augusta Repair Shop Operation (RSO) and assigned regional facilities. Partner with shop leadership and employees to promote a strong safety culture, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement across all operations.

Facility Specific Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Serve as the primary EHS resource for the North Augusta, SC Repair Shop Operation (RSO).
  • Provide EHS support to approximately 19 assigned facilities throughout the Northeastern and Memphis/Atlanta Region.
  • Visit locations regularly to establish EHS presence and provide support.
  • Conduct daily and monthly EHS meetings/training and schedule as needed.
  • Support implementation and management of EHS programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform facility EHS inspections and audits.
  • Evaluate PPE and ensure proper use and maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, FRA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations) as well as company EHS policies and procedures.
  • Oversee hazardous waste storage areas and ensure regulatory compliance, including labeling, containment, disposal, and documentation.
  • Perform storm water discharge sampling and maintain required documentation.
  • Assist with emergency response activities and provide first aid treatment as required.
  • Support behavior-based safety and observation programs.
  • Develop and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
  • Administer and inspect fall protection equipment and maintain inspection records.
  • Travel up to 50% to support assigned facilities for meetings, training, inspections, investigations, compliance audits, and safety initiatives.
  • Support administration of safety incentive programs.
  • Assist in administering and maintaining compliance programs including Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, Hot Work, Bloodborne Pathogens, Lockout/Tagout, Emergency Action Plans, and related programs.
  • Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and support corrective action implementation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the EHS Manager.

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an Environmental, Health & Safety role supporting heavy manufacturing, industrial maintenance, transportation, rail, fabrication, repair shop, or production operations.
  • Experience supporting multi-site operations and managing EHS compliance programs preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, FRA, and applicable state and local safety and environmental regulations.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective action development, and regulatory reporting.
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste management, storm water compliance, industrial hygiene principles, lockout/tagout, fall protection, respiratory protection, hot work, and behavior-based safety programs.
  • Ability to identify workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with employees, union workforce members, supervisors, managers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence positive safety behaviors and promote a proactive safety culture throughout an organization.
  • Strong technical writing, recordkeeping, and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and support geographically dispersed operations.
  • Willingness to work various shifts, including nights and weekends as business needs dictate.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including overnight travel, to support assigned facilities throughout the Eastern and Southeastern Region.
  • Professional certifications such as ASP (Associate Safety Professional), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), OHST (Occupational Health and Safety Technologist), CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager), or similar credentials are preferred.

Due to inspections and activities performed within railcar repair shops, maintenance facilities, and customer locations, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, and work in industrial environments. The employee is regularly required to move about, including walking and standing for extended periods. The employee must occasionally lift and/or transport up to 25 pounds. Correctable vision is required for close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception capabilities, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
