BWSR is the Radiological, Environmental and Construction sub-contractor at the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho Falls, ID and performs characterization and remediation of work areas to support building construction and equipment installation, system upgrades, and repairs on systems and infrastructure in radiological and non-radiological areas.

Environmental and Waste Technician - Technical Services Group - NRF-Idaho Project

Job Description:

Serve as a primary resource supporting routine activities under the cognizance of the BWSR-NRF Environment and Waste Management (E&W) organization. Serve as a liaison between E&W, construction operations, engineering, and management on matters related to environment compliance and waste management.


  • Provide field oversight of sampling and waste-related activities performed by BWSR construction operations.

  • Develop characterization documents and disposition instructions for BWSR-generated waste.

  • Ensure proper packaging, management, and disposition of radioactive, hazardous, mixed, PCB, radioactive PCB, and mixed PCB wastes.

  • Maintain accumulation/storage areas for RCRA- and TSCA-regulated waste.

  • Coordinate with BWSR satellite accumulation area (SAA) operators and PCB storage area operators to ensure all regulated waste is compliantly managed from the point of generation.

  • Oversee field sampling activities to ensure compliance with controlling documents and applicable industry quality standards.

  • Ensure compliant storage, use, and tracking of chemicals.

  • Assist with developing and presenting training on various E&W topics.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience:

Minimum A.S. degree in technical field plus two years field experience in environmental controls and/or waste-related activities or six (6) years of relevant experience.

Special Requirements:

  • At a minimum, qualify as a NAVSEA Article 107 Radiation Worker.

  • Quality as a SAA operator and PCB storage area operator, and maintain the qualifications at a supervisory level.

  • Qualify as an Engineer of Environmental Work (EWW).

  • Must be able to secure and maintain a DOE “L” clearance.
