Job Overview:

Basic Purpose of the Position 

The EHS Manager is responsible for overseeing all implementation of EHS programs and EHS performance for Evapco Midwest facilities (Greenup, IL and Newton, IL).  The successful candidate will collaborate cross functionally at all levels of the organization to ensure EHS programs are developed with stakeholder input and deployed effectively and sustainably to ensure organizational adoption while achieving functional objectives of the organization. This position will also have management responsibility for one direct report, so this candidate will be responsible for coaching, professional development, and performance evaluations.

 

Major Areas of Responsibility 

  • Develop and deploy a strategy / roadmap for the maturation of EHS programs at the site level that can be effectively implemented and sustained. 
  • Apply lean manufacturing and EHS management system principles to the development and deployment of EHS programs to drive effective, efficient, and scalable implementation.
  • Possess a working knowledge of a wide breadth of EHS topics and regulatory topics (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, Workers Compensation, etc.) and act as a subject matter expert (SME) where possible to support site(s). 
  • Collaborate cross functionally with site operations and corporate EHS functions. 
  • Coach and develop direct report(s) to harmonize EHS program deployment to ensure stakeholder engagement while optimizing standardization efforts. 
  • Conduct EHS program audits and develop sound recommendations for systemic corrective actions.  
  • Facilitate incident investigations using root cause analysis tools to generate robust corrective and preventative actions.
  • Develop and deploy EHS related training to ensure effective awareness and adoption of EHS programs.  
  • Update site management on the status of Evapco’s EHS programs and site key performance indicators through regular reporting and the development of relevant metrics.
  • Provide direction and guidance regarding implementation and maintenance of EHS related programs including but not limited to: energy control (Lock-Out/Tag-Out), arc flash, hazard communication, machine guarding, Fall Protection, Powered Industrial Trucks, Crane and Hoists, Environmental programs (waste, stormwater, wastewater, air emissions), new employee safety indoctrination, fall protection, hearing protection, PPE Assessment, crane safety, fire drills, ammonia safety programs/ammonia emergency response team, first-aid teams, safety committees.

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience leading EHS in a manufacturing environment (preferred). 
  • Bachelor’s degree in an EHS related field of study (preferred)
  • Systems-based thinker that can architect sustainable EHS programs that are reinforced with management system principals (plan, do, check, act)
  • Ability to balance big picture, strategic thinking with tactical expertise.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills to work within Microsoft Office Suite (SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Ability to engage stakeholders to gain consensus and influence others to achieve results.
  • Ability to analyze data while remaining comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Ability to navigate change and resolve conflict in a professional manner.
  • Experience conducting audits and developing action plans to address findings.
  • Ability to summarize complex ideas and programs down to simple concepts that can be digested and understood to gain buy in.
  • Develop EHS training content for various EHS programs with learning objectives, engaging content, and summarize and lead others to execute safety training.
  • Exhibit strong leadership, program development and project management skills.
  • Experience developing leading and lagging metrics to effectively monitor and measure EHS performance indicators.
  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of the following preferred:
    • 29 CFR 1910 OSHA General Industry
    • 49 CFR DOT
    • 40 CFR EPA 

 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

The position is based in Greenup IL and works closely with all site EHS personnel. Must be willing to travel domestically <5%.
