Job Overview:

SUMMARY

Provides support to Engineering and Manufacturing staff to support production process improvements, while maintaining production flow and following company procedures.   Maintains company engineering records, documentation, and other related technical data by performing the following duties.  Supports new product launches and stabilization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Primary: 

Performs new product evaluations.  This is hands-on disassembly and evaluation of automotive powertrain products (engines, transmissions, transfer cases, etc) to support the engineering staff in the development of:

  •  Process Improvement: Applying lean principles, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing changes to reduce waste and costs.
  • Technical Support: Troubleshooting issues with machinery, materials, or designs; providing expertise to floor staff.
  • Equipment & Systems: Setting up, calibrating, operating, and maintaining production equipment and automated systems.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitoring production, developing testing procedures, and ensuring adherence to quality standards.
  • Documentation: Preparing reports, procedures, and documentation for new processes and engineering changes.
  • Design Support: Reviewing product designs for manufacturability and assisting with prototypes. 

Additional:

  • Perform core and component attrition reviews.
  • Support new product launches and validations.
  • Conducts or assists in evaluations to resolve production problems relating to facilities, manning,  equipment or process.
  • Responsible for compliance to the policies, procedures, and instructions described in the Quality Manual.

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with automotive transmission repair and diagnostics.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical and test documentation.
  • Comfortable with basic computer tasks, including use of Excel, Word, and database systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership and training capabilities.
  • A mindset for continuous improvement and a willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Effective team player with strong communication skills and a collaborative attitude.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Preferred Associate degree (A. A.) in Automotive Technology, ASE certified auto mechanic, or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or four (4) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.n)

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

COMPUTER SKILLS 

  • Familiarity with MS Office apps, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with MS Outlook 365 email and Teams collaboration software.

REASONING ABILITY 

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Must be a strong communicator and have interpersonal skills. Must be able to explain tasks and procedures clearly.
