Job Overview:

Engineering Manager – Machinery & Automation

Location: Greater Milwaukee Area – On-Site

Salary: $155,000 – $175,000

Role Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Engineering Manager to lead mechanical design, automation integration, and equipment development within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role offers the opportunity to guide innovative machine design projects, collaborate across departments, and influence the future of advanced machinery used in flexible packaging, converting, and web-handling operations.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of engineering experience, ideally within flexible packaging, converting, laminating, printing, or a closely related machinery environment

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and mechanical design for parts, components, and full assemblies

  • Experience with heat sealing, laminating, converting, or similar industrial equipment

  • Understanding of supported and unsupported substrates and material behavior

  • Hands-on experience with mechatronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, actuators, and automated sub-assemblies

  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, servos, VFDs, and vector drives used in web-handling systems

  • Ability to manage engineering timelines, budgets, vendor communication, and resource planning

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving ability

  • Experience collaborating with process engineering, operations, quality, and maintenance

  • Experience with prototyping, performance testing, FAT processes, and machine startup procedures

  • Knowledge of CE, ISO, OSHA, and related industry safety and compliance standards

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with flexographic, gravure, or digital printing systems

  • Prior leadership experience mentoring engineers or technical staff

  • Success improving machine reliability, throughput, automation efficiency, or material-handling performance

  • Background in advanced web-handling principles or adjacent printing processes
