We are looking for an on-site Engineering Manager - Lighting Controls to support our team at our corporate location in Blue Ash, Ohio.
Position Summary:
The Lighting Controls Manager is responsible for leading the Lighting Controls Applications and Technical Support team in the design, implementation, commissioning, and ongoing support of luminaire integrated lighting control systems for commercial indoor and outdoor lighting projects. This role serves as the primary technical and operational leader for both third-party and proprietary lighting control solutions, including the company’s Airlink Blue wireless control platform.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise in lighting controls, wireless networking technologies, project management, and customer support to ensure successful deployment of lighting control systems from project inception through commissioning and turnover. This position works closely with Sales, Product Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Field Service teams to support company growth and customer satisfaction.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Applications Engineers, Technical Support Engineers, and Commissioning Specialists.
- Establish team priorities, performance objectives, and workload allocation.
- Drive continuous improvement in technical support processes, commissioning procedures, and project execution.
- Foster a customer-focused culture while maintaining high technical standards.
Controls Design & Applications Support
- Oversee the development of lighting controls designs for commercial indoor and outdoor projects.
- Review and approve controls take-offs, control system layouts, wiring diagrams, and sequence-of-operation documentation.
- Ensure accurate generation of controls bills of material (BOMs).
- Provide technical guidance on proprietary and third-party controls systems.
- Support complex project pursuits with sales teams, agents, specifiers, contractors, and end users.
Project Management & Operational Coordination
- Monitor and manage the pipeline of current and upcoming lighting controls projects and sales opportunities.
- Act as primary project manager for controls-related projects.
- Ensure timely delivery of project milestones and mitigate project risks.
- Coordinate with manufacturing schedules and controls hardware requirements.
Commissioning & Technical Support
- Oversee both in-house and field commissioning activities.
- Support commissioning personnel during startup and troubleshooting.
- Establish commissioning standards and documentation requirements.
- Provide advanced escalation support for complex technical issues.
- Support customers, contractors, and field personnel with troubleshooting and system optimization.
Technical Expertise & Product Support
- Serve as the organization subject matter expert on lighting controls and wireless communication technologies.
- Maintain expertise in Bluetooth Mesh, WiFi, and related wireless platforms.
- Support ongoing enhancement and deployment of Airlink Blue and other controls offerings.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Engineering on product improvements.
- Evaluate third-party controls technologies and integration opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of experience in lighting controls, building automation, electrical systems, or related industry.
- Minimum 2 years of leadership, supervisory, or project management experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing, deploying, commissioning, and troubleshooting commercial lighting control systems.
- Strong understanding of Bluetooth Mesh and WiFi networks.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
- Ability to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- Experience with networked lighting control systems and IoT-connected devices.
- Knowledge of occupancy sensing, daylight harvesting, energy code compliance, and demand response.
- Experience with field commissioning of wireless lighting controls systems.
- Knowledge of DALI, 0-10V, DMX, BACnet, and Modbus protocols.
