Job Overview:

Associate Engineering Manager – HV & LV Harness Systems

Position Overview

A rapidly growing energy technology company is seeking an Associate Engineering Manager to lead the development of low-voltage and high-voltage harness and cable architectures for large-scale battery systems.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role responsible for the full product development lifecycle—from architecture and concept development through detailed design, validation, manufacturing, and production launch. The position will lead a multidisciplinary team of mechanical and electrical engineers and serve as the technical bridge between electrical systems, mechanical design, manufacturing, supply chain, and program management.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience with wire harness development in high-voltage battery, automotive, or similarly complex electromechanical systems, combined with the ability to lead engineers and drive programs from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide technical direction to a multidisciplinary team of mechanical and electrical engineers focused on harness and cable systems.
  • Own HV and LV harness product development from initial architecture and trade studies through detailed design, validation, production launch, and ongoing production support.
  • Manage multiple harness and cable development programs simultaneously while maintaining technical quality, schedule, and program commitments.
  • Hire, develop, mentor, and manage engineers, contractors, consultants, and other technical resources.
  • Establish engineering standards, design guidelines, development processes, and best practices that improve quality, consistency, and execution.
  • Partner closely with electrical, mechanical, systems, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and program management teams.
  • Lead design reviews and engineering decisions using strong electrical and mechanical fundamentals and first-principles analysis.
  • Drive design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly considerations throughout product development.
  • Troubleshoot harness and cable issues encountered during prototype builds, testing, manufacturing, and production.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions for design, reliability, and manufacturing issues.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, technical deliverables, and resource requirements for multiple programs.
  • Provide technical coaching and career development to engineering team members.
  • Support manufacturing builds, debugging, rework, and production ramp activities through periodic travel to manufacturing locations.
  • Influence manufacturing processes and improve harness assembly methods, quality, reliability, and scalability.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional wire harness design and development experience, preferably within HV battery, automotive, energy storage, aerospace, or other complex electromechanical products.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring, supervising, or technically directing engineers.
  • Strong understanding of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience with battery systems and electrical architectures.
  • Working knowledge of EMC/EMI considerations and mitigation strategies.
  • Familiarity with automotive and industrial communication protocols, including CAN, LIN, and Ethernet.
  • Strong understanding of both mechanical and electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience developing products through multiple design iterations and into production.
  • Ability to interpret engineering requirements, evaluate design tradeoffs, and make sound technical decisions.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and aggressive schedules.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and program teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Zuken E3 or comparable wire harness design software.
  • Experience with CATIA, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or comparable 3D CAD platforms.
  • Experience developing HV battery harnesses or electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly principles.
  • Experience managing geographically distributed engineering teams.
  • Experience working in fast-paced product development environments where requirements and priorities evolve quickly.

Leadership Profile

The successful candidate will be a technically strong engineering leader who can operate at both the strategic and hands-on levels. You should be comfortable setting direction for a team while remaining close enough to the engineering work to identify technical risks, resolve design challenges, and make informed product decisions.

Strong candidates will demonstrate:

  • Technical depth in harness and cable systems
  • Strong mechanical and electrical engineering judgment
  • Effective people leadership and mentoring
  • Ownership from concept through production
  • Strong cross-functional communication
  • Ability to prioritize and execute in a high-growth environment
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement

Travel

Approximately 10–20% travel to manufacturing and development sites may be required to support production builds, debugging, rework, engineering validation, and manufacturing process improvements.

You should be proficient in:

  • ISO 22000
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
  • Mechanical Design & Engineering
  • harness
