Job Overview:

Engineering Manager 

Apply engineering skills in the development of product, and adaptation of fuel injection components and systems to customer's engines, with increased project scope and complexity. Supervision required is minimal. Coordinates the efforts of various departments such as Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality, Sales, and Service, for multiple concurrent projects. Heavy involvement of managerial and administrative tasks, with direct report supervision duties. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage technical project activities including design validation tests, failure mode effects analysis, production validation tests, and interface with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Marketing, and Sales.
  • Develops and proposes fuel system and component technical requirements, interfacing with global gasoline and diesel engine manufacturers.
  • Manage the design and development of fuel system components meeting customer requirements and demonstrate compliance through rig and on-engine testing.
  • Manage current fuel injection equipment to customer's engines, through component design and selection meeting engine performance and emissions targets.
  • Personally visits suppliers and occasionally customers in a leading role.
  • Analyze test results, write technical reports and make recommendations related to all phases of engineering activity.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineering and plant operations in the solution of complex production issues, including those that drive product and value improvements.
  • Directs the activities of up to three subordinate engineering, and/or technical employees (functional supervision).
  • Extensive customer and supplier contact with individuals at multiple engineering and management levels.
  • Manage coordination of product development and application activities with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality, Sales, and Service and other plant support.
  • Manage miscellaneous related duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Provide technical mentoring to less senior engineers.
  • Support multiple concurrent projects of high complexity.
  • Supervisory duties to direct reports, including work plans, performance evaluation, conflict resolution, etc.
  • Coordinate technical reviews (print reviews, design reviews, producibility reviews, etc.) with internal organizations, plants, suppliers, and customers.
  • Accounting and budgetary duties.
  • Proxy to direct supervisor, as assigned.
  • Manage technical interaction with customers.

Qualifications:

  • Effective communicator both orally and in writing.
  • Computer literate and familiar with MS Office applications.
  • Strong experience in product development required.
  • Supervisory Experience preferred.

Education & Experience:

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or other technical fields) with 10 years of experience 
  • Minimum of ten years of engineering experience, or equivalent graduate work.
  • Strong experience in diesel fuel injection equipment and engine test and development.
  • Preferred advanced degree in engineering.
  • Experience in project management preferred.

Travel Requirements:

Up to 20% travel to suppliers, customers

Special Qualifications - Product Assurance

  • Manage product assurance activities at all phases of product life cycle, including but not limited to, FMEA's testing programs, problem solving, DVP&R, warranty analysis.
  • Failure analysis and Corrective action and reports, metrics
  • Reliability software such as: Weibull ++ / Minitab software, Relex, etc.
  • Professional Certifications like ASQ – CRE is plus.

  • Customer communications skills ability.

Special Qualifications – Advanced Engineering

  • Strong Background in Analysis and Design..
  • Detail understanding of Diesel and Gasoline engines.
  • Strong background in test equipment and procedures, durability and performance.
  • Keep up to date with industry trends.

Special Qualifications Manufacturing

  • Working knowledge of ISO/TS requirements and APQP activities.
  • Demonstrated manufacturing / process  knowledge in metal working environment.
  • Ability to participate on cross-functional teams, including Corporate Staff, other company facilities, as well as skilled labor groups.
  • Experience with other advanced manufacturing / process technologies.
  • Well versed in GD & T
